Team Civil Defence, veterans in the NCC Tennis League has been named the Winner of the 2017 NCC Tennis Cup. Team Civil Defence, who are veterans in the NCC Tennis League, defeated Team Muller 4-0 to emerge, winners over the weekend, in Lagos.

Consequently, Team Civil Defence was rewarded with a star prize of Seven Million Naira (N7million), Team Muller got a 5million Naira reward, Team Offikwu which came Third got a reward of 3million Naira and Team Ndoma-Egba got a 2million Naira prize reward for being fourth place winners.

In his remarks, Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, who was represented by Director of Research and Development, Iyabode Sholanke expressed the Commission’s appreciation to all those who participated in the tournament or collaborate with NCC in its determination to revive the passion for tennis in the Nigerian Youth.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the International Tennis Academy, Godwin Kienka, thanked the NCC for its continuous support of Tennis championships nationwide and challenged other organizations to follow in NCC’s footsteps to restore the nation’s sporting glory.
Some of the dignitaries that at the event include Dr Kweku Tandoh, newly appointed Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, president, Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF), Mr Tunde Akinleye, chairman, Ikoyi Club 1938, Mrs Temi Nziri, team manager, Team VGC Lions, among others. This brings to an end to a season nationwide lively and competitive tennis matches as well as anxiety and healthy enthusiasm that also characterised the atmosphere at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
The participants at the tournament are Team Tech Vibe, Job, Team Civil Defence, Abuja, Team Oluyole, Ibadan, Team VGC Lions, Lagos, Team Muller, Team Ndoma Egba; Offikwu, Team Kalotari, Team Yetade, Team CBN Futures and Team Optiweb.
