Winner of Nigeria’s Top 25 Under 25 Entrepreneurs Award for software and design, Omimi Okere has been named among the 100 Most Positively Inspiring African Youths in 2017 (100 MPIAY) for creating a platform for creatives to showcase their works without being drowned out. According to the organizers, Omimi was nominated for the work which he has done to “ennoble his community and make the world a better place“.
The 100 MPIAY is an annual recognition scheme run primarily by Positive Youth’s Africa to salute the efforts of youths of African descent who have inspired many to be positive, purpose-driven and had strived for the ennoblement of humanity. The nominations were done online from the November 10 to December 15, 2017.
In their note of recognition, the organizers said this about Omimi: “ Your works are positively impacting other youths. We have added you to the list of honorees’ profiles based on the information given by your followers and our research of your works“. According to them, Omimi is being recognised as “This Nigerian teenager noticed the issue of creatives being unable to showcase their creative works in his country and decided to provide solutions“.
The selection was done by a committee constituting officials from Positive Youth’s Africa (PYA), Junior Chambers International (JCI), AFROPOLITANIS and the International Network for The Promotion of Oratory Art in Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific, better known by its French acronym as RIPAO, last week. The nominees’ list includes popular musician, Cobhams Asuquo, Uganda journalist, Bikeke Saimon, Nigerian Travel blogger, Chiamaka Obuekwe and Ugandan Entrepreneur, Christopher Ategeka.
Meet Omimi
Omimi Okere is a 17-year-old graphic designer. He founded Qontent, a social media platform, aimed at publishing the works of creatives to the right audience.It allows them to showcase the works of musicians, photographers, artists, designers, models and writers for free. The aim in the near future is to start paying the top content providers. He conceptualised and begun the journey of creating Qontent in mid-2016 when he was 15. He is the son of Austin Okere, the founder of CWG Plc.
Omimi also prides himself on keeping up to date with the world of design and technology. He is currently working on a path of industrial design in the University.
