Yegomoto, a new cashless transport technology has launched metered motorcycle taxis in Kigali, Rwanda in East Africa to help end price haggling by passengers.
The firm’s founder, Karanvir Singh, the chief executive and managing director of Yego Innovation Ltd, said the system is aimed at promoting cashless economy which will help both passengers and the operators to benefit from the technology in various aspects including that of fare.
Running on a Cloud IoT, the taxi’s will use Global Positioning System (GPS) devices that will be installed on motorcycles to deliver information about the journey covered, traffic congestion and navigation, this would also be connected to passenger’s phone.
The firm also claims its system would provide useful digital data for both public and private sectors.
Although the platform does not have a Hailing Feature now, the firm plans to work on apps that will enable users to order for a ride. For now, Users can spot Yegomoto drivers with their bright red YEGOMOTO helmets, stop and ask them for a trip on Yegomoto. On getting to the destination, the fare summary is checked and the passenger pays.

Yegomoto also has a waterproof phone charger that can enable a user charge his/her phone and pay for the Moto fares with their preferred mobile money wallet. It can also be used to deliver Food, Groceries, or even Salon or Spa services to users doorsteps thereby allowing drivers earn extra money through other e-commerce activities.

Currently competing with Safemotos in Rwanda, Yegomoto hopes to expand to all other African countries soon. If this happens it might be receiving competitions from other Moto hailing firms such as Sendy in Kenya and Max Go in Nigeria.
