WhatsApp Messenger, a freeware and cross-platform instant messaging has rolled out a new feature. Its public groups now get a ‘Group description’ feature, where users will be able to add a small description of what the group is all about. The feature is available to both Android and Windows Phone beta users with versions 2.18.56 and 2.18.28.

With this new feature, a user can simply tap on the group name or below its profile picture, and a new option for adding Group description will appear. While those with the beta version will be able to add the description and have it reflecting, other members in the Group who do not have the feature,  would unable to see the description. Interestingly, intending group participants can see the group description when the link is shared.

Who can edit?

With this feature, WhatsApp is allowing any group member edit the group description. However, group admins can deny members the right to edit the group info. The granular controls for the group admins would be called WhatsApp Privacy when it is officially introduced.

Also, the Windows Phone beta users of WhatsApp have received many other new features such as Stickers and redesigned stickers notification icon. Notably, these features have not been seen on the Android and iOS versions of the app till date. The beta version 2.18.24 of the Windows Phone app comes with the Live Location sharing feature too.
