On our Social Media Roundup for this week, a lot stories had left the social media space bubbling. Guess what? We’re here to let you in on them!
Dino Melaye: The Senator who Jumped Off a Moving Police Van
Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West stirred up a lot of controversy after jumping off a police van while being taken to Lokoja, Kogi State, for a possible parade and subsequent arraignment in court. The Nigerian Police has, however, explained the circumstances that led to Tuesday’s escape of the Senator.
Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, told journalists at the premises of Zanklin Hospital, Utako District, Abuja where the senator was receiving treatment following the development, that he escaped around Area 1 of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, men believed to be working for him got wind of the police movement and attacked the police vehicle carrying him around the Area 1 area with their vehicle after which the senator jumped down and bolted away in the process.
Nigerians on social media, in their characteristic nature, saw the comedy in it.
Nigerian comedians need to step up their games cos Nigerian politicians are beginning to take over the industry #DinoMelaye

If I jump out of a moving police vehicle, will there be an ambulance to get me to the hospital? Will I really end up in the hospital or in the station regardless?
Shame on you all who feature in this drama-like low-budget nonsense of a headline. Nonsense#Dinomelaye— Aniekan (@Akayusoro) April 24, 2018

Arsène Wenger has resigned as Manager of Arsenal FC, bringing the curtain down on almost 21 years of being in charge of the Premier League club. The Frenchman won 3 league titles and 6 FA Cups during his time at Highbury and The Emirates.
A lot of people were quite emotional about his resignation.

Arsenal fans moan and groan about Wenger but they don’t know how lucky they are. I imagine he had numerous offers to go and manage bigger clubs but stayed loyal. His invincible side for me was better than the current Man City side which people bark on as the best ever #wenger

Chimamanda Adichie and Hillary Clinton’s Bio
Another trending story is about an interview Chimamanda Adichie had with Hillary Clinton asking her why the word ‘wife’ began her Twitter bio.
According to her, Hillary is one woman who has achieved a lot and is not just a wife. Due to this, there was a lot of backlash on social media. Some people are of the opinion that she is taking the feminist thing too far. Some others think Chimamanda’s remarks had stirred a debate on the definition of equality and feminism. They are asking, “Isn’t feminism based on the principle that women can be whatever and whoever they choose to be?”
.@HillaryClinton agreed to change her Twitter bio after Chimamanda N. Adichie just told her it bothered her it started with “wife” but Bill Clinton’s doesn’t start with “husband.” #penwrites @PENamerican

Hot Topic: Recently there was a debate between Hillary Clinton and Chimamanda over a true definition of a woman. While Hilary feels that
being a wife and mom supersedes other achievements, Chimamanda feels
otherwise. So we ask, what then defines a woman? #YourViewTVC pic.twitter.com/2hdslNcy2p— TVC (@TVCconnect) April 27, 2018
The first black president of the United States, Obama has “husband” in his bio but Aunty Chimamanda is upset the Hilary Clinton has “wife” in her bio. Smh.
