Two Nigerians Make Panelists at the Global Media Forum in Germany

The 11th Deutsche Welle’s International Media Conference is finally here. Slated for June 11 – 13, the conference is one of the most popular media gatherings in the world and will hold in Bonn, Germany.

Also called the Global Media Forum, the international conference brings together thousands of decision-makers and influencers from multiple fields, including journalism, digital media, politics, business, civil society, and academia.

This year, two Nigerians are speakers at the Global Media Forum. Gbenga Sesan, a social entrepreneur, and Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr, founder of CFAtech.ng will be panelists at two different sessions at this year’s conference.

With a vast experience in using ICT for development, Gbenga Sesan will speak on the panel “Internet Freedom and Net Neutrality at Stake: How To Defend Digital Rights?.” The session will be chaired by Stiftung Entwicklung und Frieden.

While Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata will be a part of the digital media panel. His panel will discuss the role of the new digital communications companies in the media systems of their respective societies. Co-speakers at that panel include Nikhil Pahwam, founder and editor, MediaNama (an Indian news portal); Dejan Randjiic, founder and General Manager, ICT Hub (Serbia); and Maria Ressa, CEO, Rappler (the Philippines). The session will be chaired by Ronald Meinardus, Head, Regional Office South Asia of the Friedrich Nauman Foundation for Freedom, India.

Both Sesan and Chukwuemeka will get to share their views and personal experiences with the thousands of guests attending this year’s event.

About the Global Media Forum

The Global Media Forum has been influential in shaping journalism over the last 10 years. Each year, the conference uses an interdisciplinary to tackle contemporary challenges. Last year, the theme of the conference was “Industry and Diversity.”

Last year, the conference attracted over 2,000 guests from 130 countries. With the theme “Identity and Diversity,” participants at the conference partook in 40 events ranging from large forum presentations, invite-only meetings, workshops, and panel debates.
