Slush Global Impact Accelerator (GIA) has selected 15 startups to participate in its 2018 local accelerator programme where finalists would be chosen to participate in the main Slush event and bootcamp.

The Slush GIA is targeted at impact-driven entrepreneurs from emerging markets like Nigeria to help them accelerate their business, attract additional financing, and build long-lasting networks. The 15 selected startups were chosen from over 160 applications received and were chosen based on 5 criteria: Business Idea that has gained some traction; sustainability of solutions; Scalability; Uniqueness; and their team’s experience.

The chosen startups include Arone (Enugu); Homefort (Lagos), an energy startup that aims at helping Nigerians switch from switch using dirty fuels to cooking gas; Mahauty Health Solutions (Abuja), an e-health startup for children; Phendok Bioenergy (Jos), a biofuel company; Eco-fun (Adamawa), a recycling company; Databanter (Ondo), a digital food donation initiative; and Gerocare (Abuja), a subscription-based healthcare service for the elderly.

Other startups include Toppyskills (Kaduna), a mobile ICT training startup for farmers; Crispvision Ventures Ltd (Akwa Ibom), a blindness prevention service; Chronic Doctors (Abia), a digital health solution; Vida ICT Solutions (Imo), an e-health company; Pearl Errand Services (Abia), a delivery/logistics startups; Aircell (Imo), an agri-tech supply solution; and Recyclepro Innovations (Anambra), a web-based waste collection platform.
The local accelerator programme will run for 4 weeks between August 6-31 at Heartland Hub, Imo, where they would be pitching competitions for the shortlisted startups. 3 finalists would be selected to make an all-expense paid trip to Helsinki, Finland for the Slush Bootcamp which would hold from November 27th – December 6th, 2018.
