The Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has opened applications for its 2018 NIBSS Hackathon. The maiden edition of the hackathon is designed to bring together tech-driven individuals, and innovative software developers to learn and collaborate on software projects for a chance to win up to N3 million in cash prize.
The 2-day marathon hackathon (October 6th – 7th, 2018) is aimed at solving the current NIBSS technological challenge and innovate products that focus on authentication, identification, and validation of advanced fingerprints technology and as such it is themed “Biometrics: Key to the future and Inclusion”.
This is as a result of the global adoption of biometrics as the secure means of identification.
And to this effect, participants are expected to come up with solutions that are creative, viable, feasible and unique, and that would “push the limits of existing technologies implemented in the NIBSS technological space”.
These solutions are required by NIBSS to address the following:
- Identify and implement different fingerprint authentication and validation methods.
- Payment innovation using fingerprint authentication.
- Valuable collaboration with stakeholders/partners: banks, FinTechs.
Aside from these, the solutions are also to be accurate, identifiable and accountable; Easy, timesaving and safe for use; User-friendly systems, scalable and secure; Convenient and versatile.
From software developers and tech-lovers to venture capitalists, investors, banks and FinTechs, the hackathon is open to all Nigerian-resident individuals irrespective of their age. Prizes would also be given to individuals selected by the judges to have presented the best ideas.
