Another week has ended and as usual the Nigerian news landscape has thrown up issues and set agenda for the week. We took stock of these happenings and today, we bring you our favorite highlights of the week! Ranging from the reaction of Nigerians as the Dukes of Cornwall reads with rechargeable lamp, NYSC increment challenge catches fire on Twitter as minimum wage gets increase, Airtel appoints new board of directors and many more.

Nigerians Bombard Twitter as the Prince of Wales Reads his Speech With  Rechargeable Lamp.

During the week, President Muhammadu Buhari  received British Royals, Prince Charles and his wife, Duchess Camilla of Cornwall at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The three-day visit to Nigeria is part of their nine-day tour of Africa.

Trust social media to not be left out as Nigerians took to twitter to  pour out how disappointed they were seeing the prince reading his speech with lantern as displayed even in CNN.

There was also comparison of the visit to Nigeria to that of other African countries as seen below

Even in the midst of all odds, we only hope his visit to Nigeria is for good, as part of it is to address the persistent attacks of herdsmen on farming communities in Nigeria.

Nigeria Secures its place in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council

During the week, Nigeria got re-elected into the International Telecommunication Union ITC council as a member of the global body for the next 4 years (2019-2023). Nigeria amassed 114 votes at the Union’s election held in the UAE.

It is important to Nigeria because being a member of this specialized union comes with a lot of perks in the global telecommunications space. It brings hundreds of governments and representatives from competing companies together to share their wealth of experience with each other and forge creative ideas. So for the next 4 years, Nigeria would have access to this wide range of international network to help standardize its telecoms industry.

A very big congratulations to Nigeria.

Airtel Africa Appoints 8-man Board of Directors as it Moves Closer to IPO

During the week, global telecoms giant, Bharti Airtel continues to fine tune its plan for its African Subsidiary, Airtel Africa’s IPO, appointing a set of new Board of Directors as a prerequisite for the process.

Meet the board of directors:  Sunil Bharti Mittal, Raghunath Mandava, Akhil Gupta, Vishal Mahadevia, Alok Sama, Arthur Lang, Shravin Bharti Mittal and Richard Gubbins. We wish them well as they pilot the affairs of the company.

NYSC Allowance Trend On Twitter Amid Minimum Wage Palaver

Following the suspension of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Strike over minimum wage during the week, Twitter Nigeria has revisited the NYSC corps members allowance with #NyscAllowanceChallenge. Naija sha.

However, the suspended NLC strike is prompting the Federal Government to consider increasing the minimum wage but nothing is being said about increasing NYSC allowance.

Meanwhile, some corps members on Twitter are already clamouring for allowance increase as they explain how insufficient the N19,800 is for their upkeep.
