Data Science Nigeria, Nigeria’s leading data science community has announced its plans for 2019 as it celebrates its second year of operation. The 2019 schedule comes fully loaded with a ton of interesting activities, events and competitions designed to chart new courses in Nigeria’s AI and Machine Learning pursuits.

Founded in 2017 by the Chief Transformation Officer of MTN, Mr Bayo Adekanmbi, Data Science Nigeria has grown tremendously as it aims to improve analytics knowledge in Nigeria. The non-profit organisation is committed to accelerating Nigeria’s development through the solution-oriented applications of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to solve social/business problems.
The organisation recently unveiled a new AI+ focused philosophy, which aims at driving inclusiveness, fairness and accountable learning that catalyses community spirit, quality and excellence. And nowhere is this more true than its 2019 schedule.
DSN has slated a host of engaging activities for students in both the tertiary and secondary level.
They include:
AI+ Researchers Forum: A platform that provides an opportunity for budding researchers to learn from renowned and experienced researchers through regular paper review sessions and one-on-one mentoring. The session will hold every last Sunday of each month beginning in January 2019.

AI+ Club in Higher Institutions: A knowledge community of students in higher institutions who are passionate about learning and application of Machine Learning in multidisciplinary context. The clubs will meet twice each month.
AI+ Club in Primary and Secondary Schools: This is a school-based knowledge community, in partnership with the ICT units of public and private schools in Nigeria. It aims to introduce students to Introductory Python programming and Machine Learning concepts. An AI expert will visit each participating school once a month.
AI+ Professional Meet-up: This is a monthly masterclass and business engagement meeting to discuss emerging trends, best practices and practical use cases in Machine Learning application within the industry domain. Meetups will hold every third Friday of the month in Lagos.

AI+ Masterclass: The sessions combine best-in-class theoretical concept and use cases to deepen capacity of the community and drive for state-of-the-art AI application. It holds every third Sunday of the month.

AI+ Bootcamp: AI bootcamps has two parts to it. First is the Deep Learning Nigeria, which is a world-class hands-on learning and project-oriented hackathon. Second is the already famous InterCampus Machine Learning Competition, a competition designed to incubate AI and machine learning talents in tertiary institutions
Other programs slated for 2019 include AI+ Summer School for Kids; AI+ Summit and the AI+ DataHacks.
