Nigerian network and communications services provider, Globacom, has announced a system-wide 100-Gigabit-per-second upgrade to its Glo 1 submarine cable.
The upgrade to 100G wavelengths will make Glo able to deliver high-performance and cloud-based connectivity to its enterprise and web-based customers. This is because the upgrade is expected to provide quality, speed, capacity and flexibility to the network.
Hence Glo customers will benefit from an infrastructure designed for enabling digital businesses.
“As the innovation leader in Nigeria’s telecom space, Globacom is committed to ensuring that Nigerians were not left behind in the march to a digitalised world. We have invested massively in new technologies to introduce these products which we believe will redefine business, social and personal pursuits.”
Mr. Bisi Koleoso, Deputy Chief Operating Officer (Technical), Globacom.
In addition to the upgrade, the telco is also investing in more path redundancy for the Glo 1. This will mean spreading the network’s capacity over multiple cables so in case of a fiber cut, the network will continue to run smoothly.
With this development, Globacom is looking to enhance its network efficiency in all its operating areas across the country. The telco which has always being on the receiving end of disapproving comments from customers over its poor data services is looking to improve.
Also, the telco will be rolling out some offerings which it hopes would enrich the experiences of its 45.3 million subscribers. These includes its storage capacity on the cloud, Glo Drive; its entertainment portal, Glo Café and its Glo Mobile Money network.
Others includes its Artificial Intelligence platform for customer services, and World Connect, which ensures users stay connected to their offices anywhere in the world.
