Nigerian Software Engineer Christian Nwamba Becomes Microsoft Developer Advocate

Nigerian software engineer, Christian Nwamba has been appointed as the newest member of the Microsoft Developer Advocate program. This is a huge upgrade for Christian who previously had huge misfortunes securing visa for several important tech conferences in the US.

His frequent venting on social media after multiple failed visa attempts prompted the creation of a new developer conference based in Nigeria. The Concatenate Conference as it is now known brought a new crowd of developers and speakers to Lagos.

Now, Christian is already quite popular long before his visa mishaps. According to his LinkedIn page, Christian’s earliest journey as a developer began with his time as Lead Developer at Caritas University. He later did a five month stint at a local ecommerce startup, Shopp!ng. Ever since then he has delved into the developer evangelism and advocacy field.

Christian has held different positions at Auth0, Pusher, and Scotch.IO.

Before his ascension to Microsoft, Christian was a developer advocate for Cloudinary, a cloud based platform that serves as a content delivery network for some of the world’s largest tech companies. Christian joins the Microsoft team as a Senior Cloud Developer Advocate.

What Will Christian Nwamba Do At Microsoft

According to Microsoft, the work of an advocate is “to win the hearts and minds of Developers through authenticity, community and technical engagement.” As a developer advocate, Christian will do what he has always loved doing: delivering talks and assist developers all across the world.

Presumably though, Christian will work on supporting developer networks for cloud development. He could also be one of the key developer advocates for the Africa region.

Possible job description include:
• Supporting cloud developers with in-depth product documentations.
• Sharing cloud knowledge with developers at user groups and conferences.
• Learning how other developers work and how they work at user groups and conferences.
• Writing blog posts and articles about topics that will help developers accomplish more
• Interacting with developers over social media
• Volunteering at events.
• Taking developer feedbacks straight back to the product teams who can make a difference.

It’s a huge win for him and we wish him well.
