Global edtech company, Lambda school, in partnership with fintech startup Paystack is bringing its Online Coding School to African students. The Edtech company announced it is accepting applications into its Africa pilot from interested students in Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa.
The school offers an intensive, 9-month full stack software development training program. During this period, the students get to learn several programming languages (including JavaScript, Python and C) from the scratch.
Unlike other coding schools, Lambda school doesn’t accept upfront cost for tuition. Instead, students can agree to pay a percentage of their income after they are employed. And so far, the school has had over 1300 students with 86% having gone on to secure jobs within 180 days of completing the full length of the programme.
Now in partnership with Nigerian fintech startup, Paystack, Lambda School Africa pilot would see Paytack pay for co-work spaces near applicants so they can have access to reliable electricity and internet.
Interestingly, Paystack and Lambda School are both alumni of the Y Combinator Accelerator, and both raised funds from Stripe. Lambda school recently raised a $30 million Series B to aid its expansion while Paystack raised $8 million in Series A for the same purpose.
After the program, applicants stand a chance to be hired by Paystack or be introduced to other Paystack merchants (including some of the best companies in Nigeria) who’re looking for development talents. And as a perk, developers hired by Paystack won’t have to bother about the income-sharing arrangement, as Paystack would bear the cost.
Developers hired by another company will be required to payback 10% of their income for 5 years, applicable only if they earn more than $15,000 a year.
Application for this opportunity is currently open until May 28th, 2019. Intending applicants must:
- Be a citizen of either Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
- Fall within 18 to 35 years.
- Be resident in Africa.
- Be willing to commit to a full-time programme.
Applicants can click here to register. But hurry, as application is limited to only 10 students.
