At its inaugural Work in Progress user conference, Dropbox introduced the world to a brand new project: Dropbox Spaces.
According to the company, Dropbox Spaces is the world’s first smart workspace. The workspace is available on the new version of Dropbox which was released some months ago.
The smart workspace was built with machine intelligence with the goal of helping the user focus on what is important while they work.
“We think technology should reduce distractions and take busywork off your plate. That’s why Dropbox is building the world’s first smart workspace—to bring all of your team’s content together while letting you use the tools you love, so you can focus on the work that matters.”

It also provides better ways for the team to stay in sync and work on folders collaboratively.
Dropbox Spaces can be accessed from the Dropbox website or through the Dropbox desktop and mobile applications.
According to the CEO of Dropbox, Drew Houston, “we’re building the smart workspace because we need technology that helps us quiet the noise, rather than contributing to it”.
Some of the features of the Dropbox space which have earned it the term of smart workspace are highlighted below.
Smart Image Search
The Dropbox Spaces has been built to make it easier for users to locate images while working. The image can be located even if the user cannot remember the name of the file. A property of the image such as clothing is all that is required for the machine intelligence enabled workspace to find the image for the user.
Paper Integration
This feature allows the Dropbox Spaces user to create, access and store paper documents in the Dropbox file system.
Marking of Important Files
Important files and folders can be starred to make it easy to remember and access what is important while working in the Dropbox Spaces.
Calendar Integration
Users can set reminders for important tasks and appointments while working in the Dropbox Smartspace.
Asides these features, Dropbox also has other features such as the content suggestion feature which brings tools and materials you may likely need to complete your task.
Users can also preview files even if they do not have the custom native applications to open them. For example, an AUTOCad file can be previewed while working in Dropbox Spaces even if the user does not have AUTOCad installed on their computer.
Dropbox has announced that more features will be rolled out over the next couple of months. All these features will work together to reduce the stream of meaningless chats and help the user stay focused and less distracted.
