After loads of pleas and requests, WhatsApp is finally giving us a break from the bright light by rolling out a dark mode setting to its instant messaging app.
Although the platform is coming late to the party, it is still better late than never. For years, people have been clamoring for WhatsApp dark mode. This is because of its acclaimed optical benefits and of course the advantage of having a cooler looking app.
For its optical benefit, WhatsApp dark mode would reduce the strain on the eyes especially during late-night. This is why many apps offer the dimmer themes for their users. Even phones like Samsung and iPhone have night mode for users.
Plus, who doesn’t like dark mode? Everyone does!
Which explains why, when WhatsApp began testing the dark mode in its beta apps, so many users enrolled in the program that it soon got filled up.
As a treat to its users, the platform has finally rolled out its dark mode to Android and iOS platforms.
To enable the dark mode, all you need to do is install the latest WhatsApp update on your phone from Playstore or Appstore.
For users on Android 10 and iOS 13, WhatsApp dark mode will be automatically enabled, once the dark mode is enabled in their phone’s system settings. Users on Android 9 and previous versions will need to go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Theme > and select ‘Dark’.
And many users have taken to Twitter to show off their WhatsApp dark mode theme.
For Android users, the dark mode may not be as dark as that of the iOS. This is because WhatsApp used “colours that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.”
However, many users on the platform have said they are yet to receive the update prompt. For the Android users, the last update on Playstore dates February 18, 2020.
This is due to the fact that the platform is still rolling out the update globally over the “next few days”. So in the next few days, their devices will most likely support it.
And for iOS, users not running the latest OS – iOS 13 will not get the update, so they will need to update their OS.
