FG Calls for Tech Companies Offering Essential Services to Apply for Movement Permits

Following the restriction of movement caused by COVID-19 lockdown, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is calling on tech companies providing essential services to apply for movement permits.

The directive was issued by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami. According to the announcement on NITDA official twitter page, the compiled list of tech companies will be submitted for Federal Government (FG) intervention.

This development follows a similar move where the FG granted lockdown exception to allow financial institutions to carry out very skeletal operations in the financial system.

How to apply for FG lockdown permit

The lockdown has shutdown most tech companies that require a physical presence to work. However, the NITDA has released a form where tech companies who offer essential services can apply for Movement permits.

The application form lists a number of essential tech services like financial services, health goods/services, Food distribution/delivery, and sanitation. However, there is also an opportunity for those whose categories were not listed to apply.

The form requested information like company name, website, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) number, year established, company location and state(s) of operation.

It also requested a description of company services, number of employees, and number of employees who need movement to function during the lockdown.

Apart from the general information the company will have to explain measures it is intending to put in place to protect its clients and employees. It also has to make an argument on why the company qualifies to receive the permit.

The full name, email and phone number of a key contact that the agency can reach will also be provided.

Tech companies who fall under this category can apply using the link.
