Nigeria got less than 250 new Covid-19 cases for the third consecutive day as the Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports 242 new cases for May 11, 2020. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 4,641.

Lagos remained at the top of the daily update with 88 new cases. This is a slight increase from 81 recorded the day before and brings the state’s total tally to 1,933, representing 41.6% of the total cases in the country.

Kano returned into second place on the daily tally after two days away from it as the northwestern state recorded 64 new cases to bring its total confirmed cases to 666. Katsina got 49 new cases, Kaduna got 13, Ogun got 9 while the FCT got 3 new cases to bring its total tally to 359.

For regional representation, the Southwest (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo), Northwest (Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara), and Northeast (Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa) were all equally represented in the daily update, each with 4 states out of the 14 on the new update. The Northcentral (FCT) and Southsouth (Rivers) both have one state appease. The Southeast recorded no new case.

34 states along with the FCT currently have confirmed Covid-19 cases. Both Kogi and Cross River states are still holding out without their first case.

Testing, recoveries, deaths and active cases

1,127 new tests were recorded in the last 24 hours. While this means Nigeria is still doing more than 1,000 tests per day nearly a week, the figure is, however, lower than the average of 1,400 tests per day recorded in the last couple of days. This may be responsible for why there have been less than 250 cases in the last 3 days. Systematic management? Maybe, maybe not.

Total tests carried out in the country is currently 27,078.

Nigeria gets the highest number of daily recoveries with an outstanding 124 new recoveries recorded within the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of discharged cases to 902 and improves the nation’s recovery rate to 19.4%, up from 17.6%.

There are currently 3,589 active cases in the country representing 77.3% of the total confirmed cases in the country.
