Hi guys, trust you had a great week. Social media witnessed a lot of trends through the week – from the viral #EndSARS campaign to Netflix’s Òlòtūré movie.
After a series of videos posted online further exposed SARS harassment and extortion, Nigerians took to social media and the streets to protest against Police brutality in the country by demanding for the disbandment of SARS.

Popular Nigerian artistes, Ayo Balogun “Wizkid” and David Adedeji “Davido” have also lent their voices to the #EndSARS movement on twitter. Folarin Falana (Falz), Douglas Jack (Runtown) and entertainer Debo Adebayo (MrMacaroni) have been actively involved in leading 3-day #EndSARS protests in Lagos state.
Star Wars Actor, John Boyega and Africa Investment Advisor, Aubrey Hruby also joined in the #EndSARS protests on twitter.
At the time of this writing, #EndSARS is trending at number 1 worldwide. The campaign calls for a disbandment of SARS – the biggest perpetrators of Police brutality, harassment, intimidation and extortion in Nigeria.
Òlòtūré Makes Netflix Global Top 10
This week, Òlòtūré became the first Nigerian movie to make it into the Netflix Global top 10. The Nigerian movie tells the story of an investigative journalist who poses as a sex worker to expose the horrific world of sex trafficking and women exploitation.
While many people lauded the movie for shedding a light on the ills of prostitution and sex trafficking, others were very critical about how it ended.

Bolt Responds after Social Media Backlash
Bolt responded to claims that its drivers were conniving with SARS operatives to assault and extort riders. The e-hailing platform explained that it was not liable for drivers’ misconduct, citing the company terms which classifies its drivers as independent contractors.

Earlier in the week, social media users had accused Bolt drivers of enabling SARS after a Bolt rider shared a video on twitter showing how SARS officers harassed him.
Many people called for a boycott of Bolt app due to the several complaints from riders regarding its drivers’ alleged involvement with rogue SARS officers to harass riders.
Man Spoils Bae With Birthday Gifts
A twitter user, Edidiong shared a post showing the many birthday gifts she received from her boo on her 22nd birthday.
The gifts included a picture frame, dresses, birthday cards, chocolates, a cake with dollars, MacBook, wine, money bouquet and a trip ticket to Maldives.
This prompted interesting reactions from other twitter users.
One twitter user, Olasunkanmi mentioned that men should strive to be rich and wealthy. “E get why,” he said – likely referring to a man being able to shower his bae with expensive gifts too. Another user, Haris replied that it is just undue pressure, maintaining that men should be ambitious for their own sakes.
Some people commended the lady’s boo for being romantic and creative with the gifts.
