Hi guys! Trust you had a great week. Are you planning a getaway or working through the weekend? Whatever your plan, take a moment to sit back and relax as we bring you the many trends that have been making the rounds across social media.
Sorry Nigeria, Twitter Goes to Ghana
As you may well know by now, Jack Dorsey’s Twitter shunned Nigeria to open its first Africa office in neighbouring Ghana.
Many people were clearly disappointed at the news, but not too surprised due to Nigeria’s ill repute for stifling innovation, suppressing free speech as well as poor infrastructure and insecurity.
However, a number of the Twitter roles are targeted at Nigerians including an opening for an Editorial Curator Lead fluent in English Pidgin, Yoruba and Igbo.
It appears Twitter has tried to eat its cake and have it by opening an office in Ghana focused on Nigeria. Some see the company’s entry into Africa as a win for the continent.
Well, it is what it is.
Ahmed Musa Rejoins Kano Pillars
E shock you? During the week, Super Eagle’s Captain, Ahmed Musa rejoined his boyhood club, Kano Pillars in a deal that would see the former Leicester forward remain at the club until the end of the season.
Musa, who has also played at Dutch club VVV-Venlo and Russian side CSKA Moscow rejoins Kano Pillars after 11 years. The new Kano Pillars’ number 7 was widely lauded for the rather surprising move.
Pantami faces Calls to Resign over Jihadist Comments
Some Nigerians have called for the resignation of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami over comments he allegedly made on Taliban/Al-Qaeda activities and a video where he reportedly expressed his disapproval of political appointments.
However, the #PantamiResign hashtag has now been countered with #pantamiwillstay.
