Hey guys, is there something like ‘a happy Good Friday?’ Yeah, we guessed right. Anyway, it’s time to give you a rundown of the top issues that trended on social media this week.
Osinachi did not die of an illness, apparently
First up was the news of the demise of the gospel music singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu allegedly due to domestic violence. Her husband, Peter Nwachukwu has been arrested in connection with this, but he has denied the accusations.
This unfortunate incident sparked a fiery conversation on all social media platforms on issues of violence against women and many have called for the violence against women acts to be signed into law.
Osinachi lost her life at an Abuja hospital on Friday, April 8, 2022, after which the sister of the late singer accused Peter Nwachukeu of years of abusing Osinachi.
Favour Made, who’s the elder sister to the deceased in an interview with Vanguard, said her sister died as a result of a cluster of blood in the chest after Peter Nwachukwu kicked her.
FlutterWave again???
This doesn’t seem to be Flutterwave’s year at all as they seem to be in the news for all the wrong reasons for the second week in a row.
Just last week Clara an ex-staff of Flutterwave accused the company’s CEO of harassment. Her grievance is that she had to fight legally for what was hers contractually; her exit salary.
Clara says that the CEO of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola bullied her.
Well, what have they done this time around?
Independent investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, published a report tagged “Flutterwave: The African unicorn built on quicksand”… an explosive report that has been trending on Twitter for over two days.
This has started conversations about how the tech space needs to be more regulated to ensure a safe and effective ecosystem, especially for all players.
Flutterwave is yet to release an official response but that hasn’t stopped social media users from actively discussing the issues raised in that report.
Presidential declarations drama
Lots of presidential declarations hit the internet this week with official declarations from the minister of transport Rotimi Ameachi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo formally declared his intention to run for the 2023 Presidency on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the declaration on Monday morning in an address on various media platforms on why he wanted to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Osinbajo appealed to the people to consider him for the coveted office of the President based on his wealth of experience and commitment to democratic norms….with the now-famous line “continuing the work we have started” which for some reason social media users didn’t like very much.
Twitter for sale?
After the world’s richest man acquired 9.25% in Twitter shares, he was invited to sit on the board, an offer which he declined.
He has now made an official bid to buy 100% of Twitter at the $54 per share, and he is willing to pay in cash guysss…
That’s a whole lot of money! what remains to be seen is if Twitter shareholders will accept his offer.
