Tobi Amusan sets a new record at the world championship
Tobi Amusan has caused a stir not only in the athletic world but all over the world after she smashed a world record in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in the semifinals at the World Championships this Sunday.
Amusan came in with a record time of 12.12 seconds, beating Kendra Harrison’s 2016 record of 12.20 by 0.8 a second.
She went on to bag gold in the final, though her initial finishing time of 12.06 was ruled out due to strong wind speeds.
Tobi Amusan’s win, which is Nigeria‘s first gold at such an event, was met with joy, with congratulations pouring in from not only fellow Nigerian citizens but also from government officials and other notable Nigerians.

Singer Tems features in the upcoming Black Panther movie
Nigerian singer Tems, popular for her song Essence featuring Wizkid has been featured in the next instalment of the Black Panther movie.
Tems was featured in one of the soundtracks of the movie where she covered the popular hit song by Bob Marley, No Woman No Cry.
A version of that cover, of course, was featured in this weekend’s sequel teaser and boasts production from Ludwig Göransson, the Oscar-winning musician who took home the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work on 2018’s Black Panther starring the late Chadwick Boseman. Göransson—who also has three Grammys, is credited as a producer on all three tracks featured on the newly released Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Prologue EP.

Apostle Suleiman is in the news for his sexcapades again
Apostle Johnson Suleiman, head pastor of the Omega Fire Ministry is once again in the news, for allegations of promiscuity. This time with several Nollywood actresses alleged to have been engaged in an illicit affair with the pastor.
Popular gist site, Gistlover, alleges that the pastor was in an affair with actress Halima Abubakar and was the cause of her sickness. They proceeded to release a list of actresses the pastor has had an affair with and this has been met with mixed reactions from social media users.
Kenya says Flutterwave, Chippercash are not licensed to operate
After Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) said that Chipper Cash and Flutterwave were not licensed to operate in the East African country, the regulator has directed all financial institutions to cease doing business with the two fintech companies.
The CBK’s bank supervision deputy director, Matu Mugo, directed all regulated banks, microfinance and mortgage finance institutions to stop their partnerships with the two startups with immediate effect.
The letter to the CEOs followed remarks by CBK’s governor, Patrick Njoroge, that the two startups are not licensed remittance or payment service providers in Kenya — one of the biggest fintech hubs in Africa.
“It has come to the attention of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) that Flutterwave Payments Technology Limited and Chipper Technologies Kenya (Chipper) have been engaging in money remittance and payments services without licensing and authorisation by CBK…You are therefore directed to immediately cease and desist from dealing with Flutterwave and Chipper,” said Mugo in the letter.
