To drive a new wave of innovative solutions in Northern Nigeria, Blockheader in conjunction with Filecoin Orbit Nigeria hosted the first web3 hackathon in Northern Nigeria – from 29th July to the 31st of July 2022. Blockheader is a community of passion-driven web3 enthusiasts who are keen on accelerating web3 education.
As a Blockchain enthusiast, I could not afford to miss the three-day event titled: “Build the Future” consists of a workshop and hackathon. It had in attendance Chukwuemeka Mbaebie, Lead, Filecoin Nigeria.
The hybrid event (physical and virtual) was held at the Cola in Kaduna Tech City. it featured multiple sessions, discussions and talks about web3. According to the organisers, the event which is the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria had in attendance some of the best minds in Web3.
The event furthers Blockheader‘s mission of creating a critical mass of creators who will leverage web3 tools to build innovative solutions. The hackathon was geared toward solving problems, incubating ideas, and building solutions to the most pressing challenges in Nigeria and Africa on the Blockchain.

The participating teams came up with varying solutions to pressing problems. Among the participating teams are: Team Stay presented “Crypto to Fiat Solution”, and Team Node developed:
“A Decentralized Ticketing”, Team Satoshi designed: “A Decentralized Blockchain-Based Voting System” while, Team Noble built: “Prochain”, a blockchain solution that adopts NFTs in the products supply chain”.
After carefully examining their solutions with reference to uniqueness/originality of solution, usage of web3 technologies/tools, use of IPFS and code quality/documentation, the winners were selected.
Team Node (A Decentralized Ticketing) came first with a $500 grand prize, Team Noble (Prochain) came second with a $250 prize while, Team Stay (Crypto to Fiat Solution) came third with a $100 prize – in addition to incredible perks for all the participating Teams and participants.
At the event, Chukwuemeka Mbaebie introduced Filecoin to the participants and its efficacy in decentralized data storage.
Other speakers at the event include Timi Dan, Solidarity Smart Contract Developer, Victoria Enebeli, Developer Advocate at Polygon, Mudia Imaseun, Lead Product Designer, Bloc, Babajide Ayoade, Software Developer; Abubakar Khalil, Bitcoin Core Developer; David Nnamdi, Blockchain Developer; David Pius, Blockchain Developer among others.
The event had a panel session revolving around “Upscaling Blockchain Technology Adoption in Nigeria”.
Based on the success of the event and the enthusiasm exhibited by the attendees, it appears Blockheader is blazing the trail on the right footing of attaining its mission of: “establishing a self-sustaining web3 awareness/education program that equips Africans with requisite exposure and skills as they leverage web3 to build innovative solutions”.
No doubt, Northern Nigeria is intentional, getting equipped and open to exploring the immense benefits blockchain technology has to offer.
Filecoin is the world’s largest decentralized network that allows users to store, request, and transfer data via a verifiable marketplace. Filecoin is completely open-source, enabling people from all over the world to participate with a protocol that runs on an advanced and novel proof system, a combination of Proof of Spacetime (PoSt) and Proof of Replication (PoRep), to provide unmatched efficiency and reliability.
As an alternative to costly cloud storage, the Filecoin network offers efficiently priced and geographically decentralised storage, minimising financial barriers and allowing users to take advantage of its unmatched network capabilities.
Since its liftoff in 2020, Filecoin’s storage providers have surpassed 15 exbibytes (EiB) of global, decentralized storage capacity, equivalent to 190 Internet Archives, 45,000 Wikipedias, and 6,850,000 years worth of video calls due to its advanced technology that provides a robust foundation to store the worlds’ most valuable datasets.
