You People is a 2023 American romantic comedy film directed by Kenya Barris, which he co-wrote with Jonah Hill. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Hill, Lauren London, David Duchovny, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Eddie Murphy.

The story revolves around an interracial couple and how their families deal with contemporary love in the face of generational, cultural, and social divides.

The film stars Jonah Hill, who co-wrote the movie, and Lauren London, as both try to deal with the challenges of an interracial relationship in polarized and neoliberal Los Angeles.

You People was released in select theatres on January 20, 2023, before Netflix’s streaming release on January 27, 2023. The film received lukewarm reviews from critics and has stirred questions of anti-semitism

Marry me

Marry Me is a 2022 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Kat Coiro, with a screenplay by John Rogers, Tami Sagher, and Harper Dill.

Based on the 2012 graphic novel of the same title by Bobby Crosby, it stars Jennifer Lopez as Kat Valdez, a pop star who decides to marry Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), a math teacher holding a “Marry Me” sign, after learning that her on-stage bridegroom Bastian (Maluma) has been having an affair. John Bradley, Sarah Silverman, Ricky Guillart, and Chloe Coleman also star in supporting roles.

Lopez plays Kat Valdez, a thrice-divorced pop superstar. She is constantly surrounded by the people posting on her many social media accounts and ensuring she delivers on her promotional obligations.

Lopez is the film’s heart, which rests on her warmth and pure star power. She shines in several concert performances. The songs are all bangers, though one number will be of concern to some viewers, with dancers wearing nuns’ coifs and wimples, Lopez herself barely wearing anything, and lyrics that use the church to refer to love or something more physical.

Broken Hearts Gallery

The Broken Hearts Gallery is a 2020 romantic comedy film written and directed by Natalie Krinsky in her directorial debut. Executive produced by Selena Gomez, the film stars Geraldine Viswanathan, Dacre Montgomery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Molly Gordon, Phillipa Soo and Bernadette Peters.

In the open-hearted romantic comedy “The Broken Hearts Gallery,” the charismatic whirlwind of an actress is vivacious and lovable, a young woman who desperately surrounds herself with tchotchkes, knick-knacks, and souvenirs as totems of failed relationships.

The tranquil romantic comedy film, which has a happy ending, may be therapeutic for individuals who have experienced difficulty finding love and experiencing love. Falling Inn Love

Falling Inn Love is a 2019 American romantic comedy film directed by Roger Kumble, an American film director, screenwriter, and playwright, from a screenplay by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy. It stars Christina Milian and Adam Demos.

After her hiring company implodes and she breaks up with her wet blanket boyfriend Dean, Gabriela (Christina Milian) gets toasted on some white wine and enters a contest that offers the chance to “win an inn” in New Zealand.

The city girl spontaneously enters a contest and wins a rustic New Zealand inn. She teams up with bighearted contractor Jake Taylor to fix and flip it. We soon discover he’s a volunteer firefighter, handyman, and beekeeper. He’s perfect but has a recent loss in his life that makes him mysterious and unavailable, at least until someone like drops into his tranquil yet gossipy New Zealand town of Beachwood Downs. 

The film was released on August 29, 2019, by Netflix. The movie offers a near-perfect adventure of how love can be found in places not expected.

Wedding Season

Tom Dey’s 2022 American romantic comedy, Wedding Season, was based on Shiwani Srivastava’s screenplay. Suraj Sharma, Pallavi Sharda, Rizwan Manji, Veena Sood, Ari Afsar, Sean Kleier, and Manoj Sood are all featured in the movie.

Under parental pressure to find spouses, Asha and Ravi pretend to date during summer weddings — but their ruse goes awry when feelings turn real. The movie is a romantic comedy about the generational conflicts around identity and marriage in Indian American families.

Wedding Season connects with the harsh elitism of the parents and the problematic compartmentalizations of their first-generation children without becoming too trapped in stereotypes or seriousness. It is generally enjoyable to watch.

Love in the Villa

The Netflix confection Love in the Villa invokes two well-established traditions. There’s the general rom-com formula – two characters at odds, a meet-cute, a deception/reveal, an epiphany, a repeated inside joke, and someone running somewhere in a time crunch.

A third standard teacher Julie (Kat Graham), who is obsessed with Romeo and Juliet, is planning a detailed trip to Verona with her boyfriend Brandon (Raymond Ablack) to visit the city that screams love to her. But when Brandon asks for space, she’s forced to go on the trip herself.

When she arrives at the villa she’s booked in the heart of Verona; she finds yet another nasty surprise: the villa has been double-booked, and she’ll have to share the apartment with a British wine seller Charlie (Tom Hopper), whom she butts heads with immediately. Julie’s dream trip to Verona, Italy, soon turned star-crossed.

Namaste wahala

The 2020 Nigerian cross-cultural romance comedy Namaste Wahala which translates to “Hello Trouble” was produced, written, and directed by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja in her feature film debut. Ini Dima-Okojie and Ruslaan Mumtaz play the key characters in the movie. This movie was heralded as the first significant joint effort between Bollywood and Nollywood, two of the biggest film businesses in the world.

The story is about a man from India and a woman from Nigeria who falls in love despite having different upbringings and cultural backgrounds. The rest of the story goes into how the lovers can convince their parents that they are meant for each other and blah blah blah— you get the gist already. 

On December 1, 2020, it had a limited theatrical run in Nigeria and received favourable reviews from critics. It is also available on Netflix for those who want to get a feel of what marriage without support from family members can look like.

Two weeks in Lagos

The 2019 Nigerian comedy-drama Two Weeks in Lagos, which Kathryn Faseghaa and Sarah Inya Lawal co-produced, is also known on the big screen as Duas Semanas em Lagos.

Joke Silva, Jide Kosoko, Toyin Abraham, and Okey Uzoeshi play supporting roles in the movie, which also stars Beverly Naya and Mawuli Gavor in the lead roles. The movie centres on Ejikeme, an investment banker who travels to Nigeria with Charlie, Lola’s brother, to invest in local businesses but who later has an affair with Lola.

2 Weeks in Lagos captures the excitement, vibrancy, and complexity of everyday life in Lagos, a dynamic city where anything is possible in 2 Weeks. It is also available on Netflix.

Disconnect

Disconnect is a romantic comedy that brings out the intricacies and absurdities of the Nairobi dating scene. A group of singletons stumbles through the wild dating scene in Nairobi as two friends wonder if their relationship is more than platonic.

It is a 2018 Kenyan romantic comedy film directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga and Michael Jones. The film stars Kenyan actress Brenda Wairimu and actor Nick Mutuma who lead a diverse cast which explores the dating scene in Nairobi.

The film aired on October 16, 2020, and has since been on Netflix.

Isoken

Isoken is a 2017 Nigerian romantic comedy film written and directed by Jadesola Osiberu (in her directorial debut). The film stars Dakore Akande, Joseph Benjamin, and Marc Rhys.

The Osayande family is concerned about Isoken. Isoken, who is beautiful, successful, and surrounded by wonderful family and friends, appears to have the ideal life. However, at the age of 34, she is still single, which is quite worrying in a society that places such a high value on marriage.

When her controlling mother forces her into staged matchmaking with the ideal Edo guy, Osaze, things reach a boiling point at her youngest sister’s wedding. Osaze is the ideal Nigerian husband since he is charming, successful, and comes from a respectable family. Isoken meets Kevin in an unexpected turn of circumstances, and she falls in love with him.

The 2022 romantic drama film Lady Chatterley’s Lover, based on the same-named D. H. Lawrence novel, was directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre from a screenplay by David Magee. Emma Corrin and Jack O’Connell are the movie’s stars.

A tale that was much ahead of its time, We follow the lives of Lady Chatterley, a woman from a wealthy and privileged background who quickly finds herself married to a guy she finally loses affection for.

On their English estate, Lady Chatterley begins a passionate relationship with a gamekeeper, experiencing more closeness and desire than ever imagined. She disregards the customs of the time when she finds she has fallen head over heels for the man she loves.

A Perfect Pairing is a 2022 American romantic comedy movie. A wine executive from LA named Lola is the subject of the movie. Adam Demos plays Max in the movie directed by Stuart McDonald and stars Victoria Justice as Lola.

The romantic comedy, centred on a confident lady who discovers love and fulfilment in Australia, is charming entertainment that appeals to our most wholesome senses. It follows the Netflix brand content template, which is generally reserved for holiday movies like Valentine’s and is charming, amusing, and moderately rewarding.

On May 19, 2022, Netflix released the movie. According to the synopsis, the movie is a good time for fans of wine and girl-boss success stories.

The Vow

The Vow is a 2012 classic American romantic drama film directed by Michael Sucsy and written by Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein, and Jason Katims, inspired by the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. The film stars Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum as Paige and Leo Collins, with Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, Jessica Lange and Jessica McNamee in supporting roles.

Inspired by a true story, The Vow is the tale of a love that refuses to be forgotten. Leo (Channing Tatum) is devastated when a car accident plunges his wife Paige (Rachel McAdams) into a deep coma. She miraculously recovers – but the last five years of her memories have vanished. Suddenly, Leo is married to a stranger who can’t remember anything about him.

Being gullible, Paige again succumbs to the sway of her domineering parents (Sam Neill and Jessica Lange) and rekindles her relationship with her ex-fiance (Scott Speedman). The Wedding Planner

The Wedding Planner is a 2001 classic American romantic comedy film directed by Adam Shankman, in his feature film directorial debut, written by Michael Ellis and Pamela Falk, and starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.

The classic tells the story of ambitious San Francisco wedding planner Mary Fiore, who is reintroduced by her father, Salvatore, to childhood friend Massimo. Salvatore wants them to get married, but Mary resists.

Mary is recruited to organize catering heiress Fran Donolly’s society wedding to longtime boyfriend “Eddie” to persuade her boss, Geri, to make her a partner in their business. Mary’s shoe heel gets caught in a manhole cover as she calls to share her triumph.

In the end, Wedding planner Mary Fiore is saved from an accident by the man of her dreams — only to discover that he is her latest client’s fiancé. Check the movie out on Netflix.
