Hi guys, it is six days to the long-awaited presidential elections, and there is palpable tension in the land. We can only hope that this will subside after the election.
A lot has not changed since last week; cash scarcity persists, protests have plagued some cities, and there is still general confusion among the citizens.
In the social space this week, a lot happened, and as usual, we have curated the top gists that caused conversations among netizens.
FG’s decision on Naira notes stand, but some governors disagree
The cash scarcity is not getting any better especially as the Federal Government insisted on its deadline for the old naira notes. Many people had thought the government will extend the deadline, especially with the Supreme Court’s decision.
President Muhammadu Buhari announced that the old 200 naira note can still be used, but the 500 and 1000 naira notes are no longer legal tender. He further implored citizens who still have them to take them to their state’s CBN office to deposit them.
This means that even though the money is no longer being accepted, you can still return it at the CBN and get your money deposited into your account. It might take a while, but you will not lose your money.
While many vendors and establishments have obeyed this call, some state governors have ignored the president and announced that the old notes are still legal tenders in their states. One governor even threatened to sanction banks rejecting customers’ old notes.
The social space was divided, with some criticising these governors for disrespecting the president, while others blamed the President and the CBN for disregarding the supreme court.
Podcast, the new voice for social media influencers
Just when we are still trying to forget all the drama and side talks Nedu caused from his comment in The Honest Bunch Podcast, some other social media influencers have taken up the mantle to continue giving their bits on dating, marriage, and sex.
Caramel Plug, Lydia, and Maliya have become one of the hottest topics for many social analysts in the most recent drama that has shaken the netizens’ space.
In the first episode of the Rants, Bants, and Confession podcast series, this trio took the mic to share their take on the offerings of Valentine’s day, their takes on relationships, and financial independence.
However, most of their comments did not sit right with many people, especially men, including some celebrities like Buju and Dandizzy, who have resulted in name callings with these women. Some netizens claim these ladies might have proven some of Nedu’s comments about women to be true, But what can I say?
At this point, I can only say that people are entitled to say whatever they want as long as the podcast host permits them. Everybody thinks differently and does what they believe works for them, so if Caramel Plug wants different guys to solve different problems or one man to be a full provider, good for her.

A bad belle vibe on Valentine’s day
Regarding relationships, let’s say MTN ruined many couples’ days as the network service provider had a nationwide outage on Valentine’s day. Why that specific day of all days??? Especially as we are currently living in a society where cash is scarce, and most people depend on online banking.
At first, like many other people who made public complaints, I thought it was an issue with my phone, but it lasted for some hours. MTN is the most used telco service in Nigeria, but kudos to other network operators that came through that day.
When MTN apologized for the inconveniences caused by technical issues on Twitter, the damage was already done. Aggrieved customers took to the comment section to express their anger and its negative impact on their personal lives, relationships and even professional lives.
Some asked for compensation, but it seems we are not getting anything other than an apology. If your boyfriend/girlfriend or delivery person did not show up on Valentine’s day, you partially have MTN to blame.
Chrisland school again
You know that saying, may affliction not happen a second time, well in the case of Chrisland School, it is different. I bet this school’s name sounds very familiar because it trended for the wrong reasons on social media last year following a sex scandal involving underage students.
While that was completely unacceptable, the situation this time is even worse and has kept tongues wagging throughout the week. It all started when a parent took to social media to accuse the school of killing her daughter.
According to the mom, her daughter left for her inter-house sports competition just like every other day for school but was nowhere to be found when the mother reached the sports competition to cheer her on.
The school did not inform the parent of the student’s health issue, and the parent and other netizens believed that the school had something to hide.
According to the comments from students, the student had fainted and was already rushed to an immunization centre for treatment. The first person who attended to her said the student was dead on arrival. This did not sit well with many people as they took to social space to voice their complaints, even calling on the Lagos State government to shut down the school.
That is all, guys. See you next week. Yes, the election week. Let us all try to be safe, especially in these trying times.
