Hi guys, the 2023 election drama is finally ending, and maybe the tension in the land will subside after the election. The gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections were held nationwide on Saturday, and results are already trickling in. Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party has been declared the winner of the Oyo State election.
While there were accounts of violence and vote buying in some regions, INEC -the electoral commissioner- has not been dragged on social media this time. Unfortunately, ethnic bigotry has been the trend surrounding the elections.
Besides the elections, much has not changed since last week; cash scarcity persists, but Nigerians hope it will end soon. The death of Lance Reddick was a huge blow, but Burna Boy will be performing at the Champions League final this year.
In the social media space this week, a lot happened, and as usual, we have curated the top gists that caused conversations among netizens.
Seyi Makinde declared winner of Oyo state gubernatorial election
Despite the ‘agreement’ to vote Labour Party from top to bottom by many Nigerians in these 2023 elections, a good deed is something that speaks well for you even in the face of an electoral revolution.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has been declared the election’s winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The incumbent governor defeated his challengers, including Labour Party (LP)’s Akinwale Tayo and a serving senator, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His win has caused nothing, but pure joy across social media platforms as netizens have taken to the social media space to congratulate him on his victory despite the electoral crisis happening in the country.
Burna Boy to perform at the Champions League final
Nigerians were overjoyed when Davido was announced as the headliner for the FIFA World Cup final concert in December. The same feeling occurred last week when UEFA, the European Football governing body, announced that Burna Boy would be one of the headliners for this year’s UEFA Champions League final in June.
The Champions League final is scheduled to hold in Istanbul, Turkey, in June, and music lovers worldwide would be delighted to see the Afrobeats star light up the stage with his tunes.
Burna Boy also took to his page to make the announcements, and Nigerians congratulated him.

RIP Lance Reddick
Death has hit the international media industry again. This time taking one of our very own black heroes.
Lance Reddick, an actor known for his roles in the HBO police drama “The Wire” and the “John Wick” action movies, has died at 60. According to online sources, the actor died of natural causes early Friday morning.
Reddick has always been that actor that plays tall, taciturn and elegant men of distinction, and we can see it in many of his films, where he dresses in a suit or a crisp uniform. In 2021, he earned a SAG Award nomination as part of the ensemble for Regina King’s film “One Night in Miami.”
Some of his upcoming projects included the 20th-century remake of “Shirley,” and “White Men Can’t Jump”. His death has brought tragedy to the international movie industry, as many fans have taken to social media space to say a word or two about his achievements and sing his praises and contributions during his time alive.
Lance Reddick is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick and his two children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.
Tems representing in the 2023 Oscars Award
Wherever Nigerians go, we always know how to stand out from the crowd; it could be in a good or bad way, and Tems, nominated for writing the masterpiece “Lift me Up”, has taken up that mantle to represent us in the 2023 Oscar.
We all know the Oscars is a place to show off your best dress, gracing the red carpet and draped in what you think should win the best artwork piece for the night. Well, this has how it has been for years, and no year has passed without a dress being the talk of the show.
This year, it was Tems’s outfit. the custom white sculptural gown was created by a Ukrainian brand, Lever Couture, from the AW22 Leleka Couture collection. The gown featured a large white headpiece that drew backlash from all over the place for obstructing the view of fellow audience members at the event.
Many people in the social media space saw it as being rude to obstruct people purposely; some felt she could have changed from the red carpet dress to something more subtle for the award ceremony; others hailed her for being unbothered and “shining” regardless in the midst of the crowd.
What do you think about the dress?
