EBANX has appointed Wiza Jalakasi, a former vice-president at Chipper Cash as the new director of Africa market development at the fintech. Wiza Jalakasi has 13 years of experience building tech startups in the B2B and B2C spaces and would assist in expanding and developing the firm across the continent.
The Brazilian fintech company provides payment solutions to link Latin American customers with international businesses. The unicorn announced plans to expand its payment gateway solution and operations outside Latin America for the first time to Africa in September 2022.
Commenting on his new role, Jalakaski regarded his directive post as a tremendous opportunity to strengthen the reputation of the payments sector and the digital economy in Africa by supporting the connection of international players to a sizable market rife with opportunities.
“EBANX has more than ten years of track record in solving payments and helping global businesses grow in Latin America. Joining this company is a fantastic opportunity to cement the credibility of the payments industry and digital economy in Africa and help to connect global players to this huge market which is full of potential,” he said
EBANX disclosed that Jalakasi would assist in the expansion and development of the fintech’s performance across Africa and the links between its worldwide merchants and African consumers by providing in-depth knowledge of his expertise about Africa’s thriving digital industry.
“Jalakasi will play a key role in expanding EBANX’s footprint in the African region, which is the next growth frontier for digital payments and the digital market in several verticals, like SaaS/cloud, streaming, digital games and online retail. He is an important addition to the team, bringing all his expertise in solving local payments for international companies that want to connect with millions of African companies and digital consumers,” said Paula Bellizia, President of Global Payments at EBANX.
EBANX is a leading international payments platform that connects global companies with customers from the fastest-growing digital markets in the world. The company was founded in 2012 in Brazil to give people access to buy in international digital commerce.
With powerful proprietary technology and infrastructure, combined with in-depth knowledge of the markets where it operates, EBANX enables global businesses to connect with hundreds of payment methods in different countries in Africa and Latin America.
With 13 years of Wiza’s expertise in developing tech firms in the B2B and B2C sectors, it is palpable that Ebanx can count on him to effectively lead the creation and implementation of the company’s fintech solution strategies, including managing and coaching teams of payment experts, directing day-to-day operational functions by an engaged group of team members, and implementing policies and processes to enhance day-to-day operations of the company across Africa.
“Latin America and Africa have a lot in common when it comes to payment fragmentation and digitization. And EBANX has the robust technology, integration capabilities, and global expertise in rising markets needed to tackle these challenges. It is truly special to be the partner of the largest merchants in the world in solving some of the challenges that I face as a consumer here, and to influence how the world thinks about Africa,” he added.
