Apple is reportedly set to release new features in AirPods Pro that will enable the device also act as a hearing aid. Among the anticipated features, Apple is said to be developing a function that might play various tones and sounds to test the wearer’s hearing. This feature would be similar to how Apple Watch’s ECG feature detects heart problems .
The tech company may also include a component that measures the temperature in the wearer’s ear canal to ascertain the wearer’s body temperature. The current Apple Watch models already have this capability, however, temperature data collected with the AirPods Pro is said to be likely more accurate.
Another enhancement is that Apple is apparently intending to replace the Lightning port on the AirPods charging case with the revealing USB-C port (in Marshable’s review, where the USB-C port on the AirPods Pro as one of the rare downsides). The tech company is anticipated to ship iPhone 15 with a USB-C port as well. This resulted to the Lightning port on the AirPods being scraped. It is however unclear whether this update will happen sooner than the other new features planned.
Gurman, a tech reporter for Apple’s product plans, says the AirPods will be as significant as its recently released AR headset, the Vision Pro. The headset includes built in speakers, but they are better compatible with the Airpods Pro for a more immerse and alone experience.
Apple’s AirPods launches over the years
The first Apple wireless earbuds was released December 13, 2016 while the 2nd generation-was released March 20, 2019. The third generation was released October 26, 2021. In 2022, the tech company refreshed its AirPods Pro. Every upgrade the company has made on its Airpods Pro has been in the spaces of three years intervals.
