Ubuntu name rebranding event at Uganda

Ubuntu Towers Uganda has undergone a brand makeover, renaming itself TowerCo of Africa Uganda today. This was preceded by Ubuntu’s sale of its majority stake (90% shares) to TowerCo of Africa in 2021. TowerCo Uganda says will continue improving connectivity in the country.

The name rebranding occurred at an event that had Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebugwawo the Ugandan Uganda State Minister of ICT, business leaders, and other stakeholders in attendance. At the occasion, The company’s representatives examined the firm’s strides in the business scene since its inception in 2020.

Geoffrey Donnels Oketayot, CEO of TowerCo of Africa Uganda, said that his team was delighted to announce the company’s name change. He also expressed joy at the thought of unlocking a new chapter of the business, adding that they’d already been part of a rewarding journey.

Already managing a network of towers spanning 360 locations, TowerCo is keen on adding more sites in a few years. Almost all of the towers are fitted with hybrid energy solutions, affirming the company’s desire for sustainable development.

Our rebranding represents a transfer of the positive legacy from Ubuntu Towers to the TowerCo of Africa brand. It also marks an important milestone in our evolution, which is punctuated by our ambition to be the best green passive infrastructure solutions provider in Uganda,” he further stated.

Oketayot also thanked employees, clients, business partners, and industry stakeholders for playing their respective roles in helping the company make a huge impact. Concluding his speech, he affirmed that his team was dedicated to continue providing customers with telecom innovations that “catapult communities, businesses, and the economy towards meaningful growth.”

Following the name change, the management team comprising Oketayot, George Ssamula (CLO), Ronald Onzia (COO), Mark Otai (CFO), and Harold Luzinda (CCO) will remain as the C-executive crew. Given their combined experience of 25 years, retaining them made sense.

Meanwhile, Stephane Beuvelet, the CEO of TowerCo of Africa, said his company targeted sectors like education and logistics with infrastructure investments. Commenting on the expansion to Uganda, Beuvelet said the team was excited to work in a country with a modern regulation system and enterprising people.

He added that TowerCo was highly confident in Uganda’s potential of being a major player in “green powered passive telecoms infrastructure.”
