Instagram Threads have launched one of its widely anticipated features: the web browser version. This is while still retaining an active login session. Web support has consistently ranked as one of the most frequently requested features by users.

Its integration has the potential to revolutionize the experience for those users who are currently navigating the transition from platforms like Twitter and X. This addition not only addresses a fundamental user need but also holds the promise of significantly impacting how users interact with the platform.

The incorporation of web support could mark a pivotal moment in the platform’s evolution, providing users with a more versatile and accessible means of engagement. According to a report, the feature was launched today. Nonetheless, the breadth of the global rollout remains unknown, but our team at Technext can confirm its accessibility.

Although users will still be able to create posts, browse their feeds, and interact with posts directly from desktop platforms, for the time being, however, the web experience may fall short of the extensive features offered on the Threads mobile app.

Some of these features that web users do not have include the inability to alter their user profile or effortlessly transmit a thread to Instagram DMs (direct messaging). Users also cannot join in on conversations and can only view them for now.

Nevertheless, the report highlighted that the Threads team is diligently striving to incorporate a multitude of additional features, aiming to align the web application more closely with its mobile counterpart in the forthcoming weeks.

How to access your Threads account on a web browser

As an end user, when you want to use Threads on a web browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.), you need to enter a specific URL in the browser’s address bar. The URL format is your profile page link, which looks like “threads.net/@(your Threads username).” For example, if your Threads username is “user123,” your profile page link would be “threads.net/@user123.”

After typing in your profile page link and pressing Enter, the web browser takes you to your profile page on the web. This is similar to the profile page you might see within the mobile app.

However, when you access Threads on the web, there are certain limitations in terms of functionality as earlier mentioned. For instance, you’re not able to perform actions like liking a post, replying to a post, or creating new posts directly from the web interface.

When you try to perform actions like liking, replying, or posting on the web interface, a message appears on the screen. This message states: “Get the app to like, reply, and post.” This message suggests that in order to perform these interactive actions, you should use the mobile app rather than the web interface.

While you can’t directly like, reply, or post from the web interface, there is a workaround. You can copy the link to a specific post on Threads and share it with others. This allows you to share a direct link to a specific piece of content or conversation within Threads.

A new feature to drive more engagement

Threads made a remarkable entrance by quickly amassing over 100 million users in record time after its launch. It even surpassed ChatGPT to become the fastest-growing app, mainly thanks to its innovative use of Instagram’s social connections to attract new users.

However, just as quickly as the initial excitement, the app suffered a steep decline in user engagement after launch. At the end of July, just weeks after launch, its user base was down 82% to just 8 million daily active users. This was supposed to be the app that has been crowned as Twitter/X’s major competitor.

But since the app is still in an effective beta stage, there are key features that are still in development that might just help the app grow a strong user base, like the web browser feature.
