President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, took a decisive step in the leadership of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) by appointing Bisoye Coker-Odusote as the Acting Director-General of the commission.

This move is in tandem with President Tinubu’s directive to initiate a 90-day pre-retirement leave for the current NIMC DG, Aliyu Abubakar Aziz, set to commence on August 24, 2023. Aziz’s retirement is scheduled for November 24, 2023.

The president, according to reports, has authorized Bisoye Coker-Odusote to take up the position of Acting Director-General/CEO of NIMC for the next ninety days, beginning on August 24, 2023,

Following this interim period, Coker-Odusote will officially take on a full four-year term as the substantive NIMC Director-General/CEO, a position she will assume on November 24, 2023.

President Tinubu’s strategic decision-making extends beyond NIMC. The President also endorsed Yusuf Yakub’s appointment as the Director/CEO of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps (DTAC). This appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of the former DTAC Director/CEO, Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi.

Who is Bisoye Coker-Odusote?

Bisoye Coker-Odusote is currently the General Manager/CEO of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA). She oversees a pivotal state body tasked with regulating and maintaining utility infrastructure across Lagos State.

Her role encompasses the oversight of telecommunications, electrical, gas, and water infrastructure both above and below the ground within Lagos State. Her association with technology and innovation is evident from her tenure as a Special Adviser on I.T & Youth Policies to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She has also served as the former head of IT, PR, and communications at BATELitwin and has played a pivotal role as the National Database Project Director for the All Progressives Congress (APC), underscoring her dedication to leveraging technology for transformative purposes.

The career journey of Coker-Odusote is a global tapestry of experiences. Over a period of more than 15 years, she has worked in a variety of industries in the UK and Nigeria, including technology, media, banking, real estate and construction, and oil and gas.

Coker-Odusote’s significance is further demonstrated by her director seats on the boards of significant companies like Blake Real Estate Limited and IT Data Network Limited, which further cement her influence in the infrastructure and technology industries.

Apart from her career achievements, Bisoye Coker-Odusote has a strong dedication to encouraging women in STEM sectors. She advocates for educational grants for women seeking degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through her project under The Bibi Coker Foundation.

It is anticipated that Bisoye Coker-Odusote’s vision and experience will lead the Commission during this time of transition.
