Egypt-based education technology company, Crafty Workshop, has successfully secured $400,000 in a Seed funding round. The round was led by EdVentures, the first edtech-focused corporate venture capital in the Middle East.

Founded in 2019 by Hadeer Shalaby and Amgad Moustafa, Crafty Workshop is a leading e-learning platform that specialises in the creative industries. The startup offers a diverse range of creative courses and workshops. It caters to individuals interested in art, design, illustration, programming, game development, photography, animation, handicraft, and more.

The platform is focused on providing accessible and high-quality education, thus empowering learners to enhance their creative skills and pursue their passions.

In addition to its role as an educational platform, Crafty Workshop also serves as a vocational skills training provider, addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment. By offering vocational training programs, the company equips learners with the necessary knowledge and skills, while also helping them secure job placements and career opportunities.

Speaking on the funding round, Co-founder, Hadeer Shalaby, expressed enthusiasm about the future prospects of the edtech startup while explaining that the fund injection would help the seed-stage startup accelerate its growth.

“We are thrilled to have received this investment from EdVentures, which will enable us to accelerate our growth and make a greater impact in the Edtech space. We are excited to expand our reach to the Gulf Region, enrich our content library, and enhance our offerings for schools involved in creative productions.”

More about Crafty Workshop

One doesn’t come across a lot of educational technology companies out of Egypt but one does, they are always truly exceptional. Crafty Workshop is no different as it stands out by providing learners with access to a wide array of courses and workshops taught by experienced professionals in various creative fields.

The curriculum is carefully designed to be engaging, practical, and applicable to real-world scenarios, thus emphasising the development of relevant skills and techniques. Courses are available online and are pre-recorded or live through the platform.

The startup is optimistic that this new investment will fuel its growth and expansion plans. The company aims to extend its operations to the Gulf Region, and further diversify its content offerings to include 500 subjects in the creative industries by 2024. It is also aiming at developing a specialised product for schools involved in creative productions.

This latest investment is the second investment round that Crafty has received from EdVentures, having received an initial investment from the MENA’ leading Edtech investor back in 2019. The General Manager of the VC company, Maged Harby noted that it has been a successful partnership since then as the startup has taken giant strides.

“We are delighted to continue our support for Crafty Workshop. Our initial investment in 2019 marked the beginning of a successful partnership, and since then, Crafty has made remarkable strides in both the Egyptian market and the Gulf region. At EdVentures, we are committed to investing in endeavours that foster innovation in the edtech ecosystem and contribute to the development of human capabilities. Crafty Workshop aligns perfectly with our vision and mission,” the General Manager said.

Crafty Workshop’s successful funding round highlights the growing demand for accessible and quality education in the creative industries. The company remains committed to its mission of empowering individuals and organisations to thrive in the creative sector by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to succeed.
