KoraHACK 2.0: Kora opens application for payment solutions for emerging markets

Kora has announced the launch of KoraHACK 2.0. The company’s second annual hackathon is set to take place from September 15 to October 4, 2024.

According to a statement shared with Technext, KoraHACK 2.0 promises to be an amazing experience for all participants, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change in the fintech space.

Kora is a pan-African payment infrastructure offering a robust payment API for pay-ins, payouts, and cross-border settlements across popular payment channels. Kora services enable global and local companies to scale rapidly across Africa with a single integration.

This year’s hackathon will focus on reimagining payment solutions to help improve how people and businesses in emerging markets pay, buy, and sell. The theme for this year’s hackathon, “Redesigning Payments: Breaking Boundaries in How We Pay, buy, and Sell in Emerging Markets,” reflects Kora’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation in the financial technology sector.

While many existing solutions aim to simplify payments for people and businesses, Kora believes opportunities exist to create more user-friendly, innovative and impactful solutions tailored specifically for the African market.

“We started KoraHACK last year in partnership with Google Developers Network, Owerri. The goal for us this year is still the same; to foster the growth of tech talents in Africa and to encourage innovation in the fintech space. Not everyone has the resources to bring their idea to life, and KoraHACK will give tech talents that opportunity to do so,” said Dickson Nsofor, CEO of Kora.

Participation in the hackathon is open to everyone but coding experience is required. If you wish to participate and don’t have coding experience, you have to connect with a team of developers to build a project. The hackathon encourages team participation with a team of not more than four members.

Subsequently, successful applicants will be invited to build their projects with Kora APIs. Over 14 days, participants will have the opportunity to collaborate in teams, brainstorm innovative ideas, and build prototype solutions. These solutions will be evaluated based on set guidelines.

The top-performing teams will receive cash prizes of up to NGN 2,000,000 (USD 1,200), alongside valuable mentorship opportunities from industry leaders. Moreover, the winning solutions have the potential to be developed further, contributing to the next big breakthrough in the African payments ecosystem.
