Four Nigerian women have been selected for the prestigious Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) Awards 2024. This was contained in a statement made available to Technext by the AWIEF.
According to the statement, the finalists have been selected from a diverse group of talented women founders and business owners across the continent. The finalists have each demonstrated excellence in their respective fields which include agriculture, technology, creative industries, social entrepreneurship, and more.
“The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum is delighted to announce the finalists for the prestigious 2024 AWIEF Awards, set to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Africa’s women entrepreneurs and business leaders. The awards, held annually as part of the AWIEF conference, honour the impact of women entrepreneurs in driving innovation, promoting gender equality, and contributing to Africa’s economic development,” the statement reads.
The Nigerian women who have been selected for the award include Christiana Okere, the Co-founder of Nigerian financial technology company, myStash (nominated for the Tech Entrepreneur Award category; and Ifeoma Okonkwo CEO of Ifgreen Industries & Investment, an agro-based company (nominated the Agri Entrepreneur Award category).
Others are Osen Iyahen, Founder and CEO of Optimal Greening Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to delivering environmental sustainability solutions focused on energy, waste and water; and Temitope Mayegun, Founder and CEO of Avilla Naturalle, a leading manufacturer of natural skincare products in Africa (both nominated for the Social Entrepreneur Award).
Other finalists of the AWIEF Awards 2024
African women have continued to forge their paths in the African tech and business space, and their accomplishments are a testament to the power, resilience, and innovative spirit of African women in business. AWIEF, a pan-African non-profit organization, has always supported these women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and fulfil their potential.
This it does through its annual conference and awards. Aside from the Nigerian women, here are other women across Africa who emerged finalists of the 2024 AWIEF Awards.
South Africa’s Mpho Hlongwane of MH Automotive Engineering; Cameroon’s Adeline Pelage of Madinina Foods; and Egypt’s Jessy Radwan of Carerha, a female-focused Edtech company all emerged as finalists of the Young Entrepreneur Award.
Botswana’s Naledi Magowe of Brastorne; and Kenya’s Cherotich Rutto of Tawifresh Kenya Limited all emerged, alongside Nigeria’s Ifeoma Okonkwo, as finalists under the Agri Entrepreneur Award.
South Africa’s Thabo Makhetha-Kwinana, Founder and CEO of Thabo Makhetha CC; Côte d’Ivoire’s Jenny Edwige Mezile of L’École D’Arts les Pieds dans la Mare de Jenny Mezile; and South Africa’s Jane Mpholo, Founder and CEO of Jane Mpholo Pty Ltd, all emerged finalists of the Creative Industry Award.
Cameroon’s Fomum Victorine Agum of the Global Women Emancipation in Sports; Kenya’s Judy Makira of the Centre for Women Empowerment in Technology; and South Africa’s Creseldah Cassandra Ndlovu of CLM Clothing & Textile, all emerged finalists of the Empowerment Award.
Tunisia’s Ynes Hafi of ARSELA and Rwanda’s Peace Iraguha of Lifesten Health both emerged, alongside Nigeria’s Christiana Okere, as the finalists for the Tech Entrepreneur Award.
Finally, for the Social Entrepreneur Award, South Africa’s Tsholofelo Ramokoka of AddressDox emerged alongside Osen Iyahen and Temitope Mayegun, both from Nigeria, as the finalists in that category.
“The AWIEF Awards continue to celebrate women who are making waves across industries, empowering communities, and setting new benchmarks in entrepreneurship. The finalists represent a diverse array of sectors, highlighting the depth and breadth of women’s contributions to Africa’s economic landscape,” the organisers said.
The winners of the 2024 AWIEF Awards will be announced at the AWIEF Awards Ceremony on November 29, 2024, during the AWIEF Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
