EcoBank has been awarded the Bank of the Year in four African countries by the Banker’s Awards. This was disclosed by the pan-African bank in a statement seen by Technext. According to the statement, the bank’s affiliates in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia and Togo have each been named Bank of the Year 2024 in their respective countries in The Banker’s prestigious Bank of the Year Awards 2024.
The Banker’s awards are judged by a panel of editors including regional and sector specialists. These four Ecobank affiliates emerged as the winners after analysing all entrants’ key criteria improvements across their balance sheets, strategic initiatives, technology, new products, services and sustainability.
EcoBank, in its statement, says the awards highlight the transformative impact of its ongoing commitment to improving how customers access the financial services they need. The bank also said it is yet another reflection of the group’s long-standing dedication to delivering exceptional customer experiences while offering innovative financial solutions that empower customers every day.

Speaking about the impressive feat, Chief Executive Officer of the Group, Jeremy Awori, said the awards are a testament to the group’s drive to always improve the quality of its products to effectively service its customers across its 35 markets in Sun-Saharan Africa.
“These Awards recognise our intense focus on continually enhancing the value of the products and solutions that we offer to our customers. The awards equally highlight our continuous efforts to provide a better customer experience at every touchpoint across our 35-country footprint in sub-Saharan Africa,” Mr Awori said.
He said the awards are also proof of the real impact and vision of the Ecobank brand, encapsulated by the bank’s strategy which focuses on Growth, Transformation and Returns. This strategy makes sure the bank always has its million customers at its heart and soul – thus influencing their decision to always choose EcoBank. This, he says, is a key driver of the banks’s success.
EcoBank’s commitment to improving financial services
EcoBank has been demonstrating its willingness to improve financial services for its customers. Recently, Technext reported that the bank announced that it is now offering real-time cross-border payments across 35 African markets including Nigeria. This seamless cross-border payment service is estimated to be available for more than 32 million customers across the continent.
The partnership, the bank says, is set to revolutionise the payment landscape on the African continent by enabling faster, more efficient international payments for businesses and consumers alike.
The innovation, made possible through a partnership with real-time cross-border payment company, Nium, will see Nium’s real-time payments infrastructure integrated into Ecobank’s existing banking operations. This will empower the bank to enhance its services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The bank, on its part, will connect its existing Swift workflows to Nium, gaining access to real-time transfers, updates, clearing, settlement, and payment tracking, without the need for complex API integrations.

It is the introduction of innovative products like this that has seen the bank awarded the prestigious Bank of the Year awards across 4 markets. The Ecobank affiliates were presented with their awards at The Banker’s Awards Ceremony in London, United Kingdom on 4 December 2024.
The group said the awards add to EcoBank Transnational Incorporated and its affiliates’ recent success in winning 14 Euromoney and Global Finance Awards.
