The government of Morocco government has made a move to introduce artificial intelligence and digital competencies in schools to equip its youth with the necessary skills to provide technical solutions. Amal El Fallah-Seghrouchni, the Delegate Minister for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between key stakeholders in the country’s digital economy.

The move is expected to pave the way for a generation of digitally empowered citizens who will be capable of thriving in an ever-changing digital economy. The project is also within the context of a wider national drive to advance digital literacy and ensure that the new generation of young Moroccans is well-positioned in the new working world.

According to this plan, the government will start a training program and courses aimed at acquainting students with newer technologies like artificial intelligence. Commenting in a post that was put out on social media, the ministry underlined the importance of the action by asserting,

This national program aims to introduce children to digital technologies and artificial intelligence through training workshops while teaching them responsible and secure use of digital tools. Adopting an inclusive approach, this initiative aims to support young digital talents throughout the Kingdom in order to integrate them into the country’s digital transformation dynamic.”

The program also includes proposals to establish an independent coding school in the Fez-Meknes region. The school will focus on offering training in programming and other types of digital skills so that Morocco’s future workforce is not just well-versed in technology but is also capable of driving innovation in the private and public sectors.

Digital Morocco 2030: Charting a path for a modern economy

This training program is one of Morocco’s global “Digital Morocco 2030” strategies, a master plan for a digitally driven economy and public services reform. The plan aims to position Morocco as a model digital economy for Africa and a global player by developing an inclusive, innovative, and well-governed digital ecosystem.

The country unveiled its ambitious Digital 2030 vision in 2024 as a comprehensive master plan to revolutionize its economy and public services with state-of-the-art technology. Unveiled amidst unprecedented national hype, the plan established an agenda for radical transformation aimed at nurturing homegrown innovation and creating a more competitive environment domestically and globally.

Its economic vision was apparent from the outset. Ministers set out a commitment to establish a digital economy that would drive entrepreneurship and job creation. The centre of the strategy was creating a thriving startup ecosystem. By 2030, Morocco aims to develop about 3,000 startups, including high-growth “Gazelles” and even billion-dollar “Unicorns.”

To fulfil these aspirations, the government has launched an array of financial incentives and aid schemes. These included specialized finance programs and venture capital investments meant to fund startups right from inception until maturity. It also aims to stimulate the outsourcing and digital export sectors.

The North African country is set to double export revenues to 40 billion MAD and create 270,000 new jobs, especially for those who are digitally inclined. To reach these targets, the government has offered tax breaks, simplified business procedures, and upgraded its digital infrastructure. These steps are meant to attract foreign investors and position Morocco as a top destination for global outsourcing.

The country’s strategic emphasis on inching toward modernizing education along with a comprehensive economic blueprint, reiterates its commitment to technology. Through the propagation of digital proficiency early in life and the nurturing of an innovative-friendly environment, the country is building pillars towards long-term expansion and the formation of job opportunities. All of these are tailored towards redefining employee skills and triggering an inflow of entrepreneurial activities, hence solidifying Morocco’s transition to a faster and more competitive digital age.

Ahead of the curve, Morocco’s visionary digital plan will revolutionize its public sector and economy. With strong government support, targeted investment, and forward-looking policies, the country is not only preparing its youth for the challenges of a digital era but also charting a course for long-term success on the global stage.
