On a quiet Wednesday morning, users of PiggyVest, Nigeria’s popular digital savings and investment platform, found themselves unexpectedly locked out. Attempts to access the app were met with persistent “network error” messages, leaving many anxious and frustrated.
One long-time user, @ese_osa__ recounted, “I was not able to access the app during the downtime. It kept saying ‘network error’ for a few hours.” The disruption had immediate consequences for individuals relying on the platform for timely transactions. “Yes, the downtime affected transactions. It affected my morning because I am meant to pay someone,” the user added.
In response to the outage, the fintech issued a statement:
“Hello ????????
We experienced a brief downtime earlier this morning. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered while accessing the app.
The issue has now been fully resolved, and you can log in successfully.
Thank you for your patience. ????”

Despite the inconvenience, some users maintained their trust in the platform. “No, I did not receive any notifications [for the downtime], and I did not reach out. I trust PiggyVest a lot, and I know whatever is happening is just temporary,” @ese_osa__ expressed.
The user continued, “I have been using PiggyVest for over five years now, and I have not had any issues regarding my funds. Issues like this don’t make me anxious or lose interest in them.”
However, this incident is not isolated. In the past, users have reported similar issues. For instance, in September 2019, the digital savings company experienced network glitches that prevented users from accessing the platform.
At the time, the company attributed the problem to issues affecting specific network providers and advised users to try different networks.
Moreover, some users have shared more severe experiences. A Nairaland user recounted a frustrating ordeal involving a failed withdrawal of ₦70,600, which led to a series of complications and unhelpful responses from customer service.
The user concluded, “This entire experience has left me feeling betrayed and cheated. I trusted PiggyVest with my hard-earned money, only to be met with obstacles and indifference when I needed both my money and their assistance.”
Despite these challenges, many users continue to support the fintech entity, appreciating its role in promoting savings and financial discipline. As @ese_osa__ noted, “I feel like PiggyVest is better because when I send an email or reach out on social media, I get a response that my issue will be resolved soon.”
