The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has increased the NIN Date of Birth (DOB) modifications on its portal to N28,750 from N16,340, representing a 75 per cent hike. The adjustment is among the new set of prices announced by the Commission for all services relating to data modification on the National Identification Number database.

Earlier this month, the Commission released a public statement on plans to increase fees across its products and services. While pointing out that the increment is to ensure alignment with current operational costs and industry standards, it noted that the adjustment comes after a decade of maintaining the same price structure.

Among the new price adjustments is a 31 per cent increment on any other field modifications aside from DOB, such as names, addresses, and phone numbers, among others. The fee, which previously cost N1,522, now costs N2,000 per transaction. While the enrollment and issuance of the NIN slip is free, NIMC noted that the NIN slip re-issuance now costs N600, up from N500.

For Nigerians outside the country but residing in Africa, new enrollment for adults attracts a $50 fee, while it costs $30 for children. Also, the NIN slip re-issuance in the Diaspora costs $6. For data modification across Africa, correction of the date of birth costs $55, while modification of all fields other than the date of birth costs $10. For Nigerians outside African countries, the correction of name costs $60 while modification of other fields costs $10.

What NIMC is saying about the new NIN modification prices

In a public statement released by the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, on May 2, 2025, it explained that the price review comes “after a decade of maintaining the same price structure,” adding that the increment is to ensure alignment with current operational costs reflection of prevailing economic conditions.

“The revised pricing structure aims to maintain the quality and integrity of NIMC’s services while ensuring affordability and accessibility for Nigerians,” it noted.

Also, in its executive summary of the new price list, NIMC said the development is attributed to increased revenue drive, tax unification to broaden the tax net, social intervention, and new additions to its bouquet of products and services.

The commission said that it considered the obtainable charges by sister agencies on similar services, i.e. Passports and Drivers’ License Services, and also took into consideration the Commission’s service for the public interest, maintenance of its infrastructure, and the desire for self-sustenance.

Following due consultation with all departments and in consideration of the above and current market realities of inflation at 32.70 per cent, we propose an upward review in the fees for our product and services with a markup of at least 20 per cent across with exceptions to certain services per their peculiarities,” the Commission stated.

While noting that the price adjustment will take effect immediately, it warned all its Front-End Partners (FEPs) to adhere strictly to the new pricing structure.

Amid the release of the NIN price adjustment, the commission recently launched the NIN Authentication structure to provide a secure and seamless identity verification and authentication. This development stems from the Presidency’s directives on the use of NIN Auth for verification and authentication across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“The launch of the “NIN Authentication (NINAuth)”, a cutting-edge suite of services that include web, API, and mobile verification designed to enhance data security, protect privacy, and simplify access to government services, is part of President Tinubu, Renewed Hope Agenda on strengthening the National Identity Management System,” the commission added.

The initiative centres on empowering Nigerians with greater control over their personal information. By requiring explicit consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verifications, the platform fosters trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management.

As of March 2025, NIN enrollment stands at 118.4 million, representing a 1.19 per cent increase from 117.3 million recorded in February 2025.
