The Lagos State Government has partnered with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge into a modern transport hub. The facility, which will house solar-powered lighting, CCTV cameras and a regulated transport terminal, will be named Y’ELLO Bus Park upon completion.
The development, disclosed on Tuesday by Tokunbo Wahab, the State’s Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, is set to transform the Obalende under-bridge to a ‘well-structured’ transport hub.
“This redevelopment will convert what was once a notorious and degraded space into a functional, secure, and community-centred facility,” he said in an X post.
The commissioner noted that the project is part of the Lagos State Government’s resolve to reclaim public places from thuggery activities and promote a responsible city. Tokunbo added that the facility, when completed, will make it functional, sustainable and safe for the needs of Lagosians.

The move comes at a time when the Lagos State Government is embarking on a clean-sweep strategy across the state. This project forms part of its dedication to enhance security, upgrade infrastructure and promote an organised and clean environment.
In terms of its features, the Commissioner revealed that the new bus park will accommodate a design that promotes safety, health, and aesthetics. This includes Solar-powered lighting to improve night-time visibility and reduce blind spots. There will be the installation of CCTV cameras to help monitor, curb criminal activities and improve overall security in the Obalende axis.
The Commissioner explained that the CCTV cameras will be solar-powered to ensure their effectiveness in securing lives and property.
“In line with our commitment to climate responsibility, the project includes the installation of solar panels to support long-term energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint,” he added.
The Y’ELLO Bus Park will also possess a regulated transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, a road camp for Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) sweepers and security agencies. Over 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks, and other essential amenities designed to serve commuters and residents will be built across the bus park.

Other facilities are
- A biodigester system to manage wastewater generated within the park.
- A recycling station that will discourage illegal waste disposal in the area.
- Tree planting to improve air quality and enhance the visual appeal of the environment.

Lagos is deepening security measures
The Y’ELLO Bus Park forms part of a recent development expected to transform security and orderliness in Lagos State.
Recently, the Federal Government, in partnership with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), built a N40 billion Closed-Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) Centre of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The faculty is tailored to curbing motorists’ speeds on the bridge, and an initiative to enforce adherence to traffic rules and regulations.

The centre is powered by a 300KVA transformer, a standby generating plant and monitoring screens. There are also 240 solar panels and 10 inverters aimed at ensuring the CCTV cameras are in operation on 24 hours basis.
