Infinix HOT 70 Series: How Infinix Is Using Design and AI to Differentiate in a Crowded Smartphone Market

For years, smartphone innovation has largely followed a familiar playbook: better cameras, faster processors, larger batteries, and incremental software improvements. While these advancements remain important, they have also created a challenge for manufacturers. How do you stand out when everyone is improving in the same areas?

With the launch of the HOT 70 Series, Infinix is attempting to answer that question through a combination of design innovation, AI-driven experiences, and long-term durability. Rather than competing solely on specifications, the company is introducing a device that seeks to differentiate itself through interaction and personalisation.

At the centre of the strategy is Dynamic Shine Design, a new design language that introduces an industry-first lineup of colourways, including the headline-grabbing Thermo Orange edition, a smartphone that physically changes colour in response to temperature.

Beyond Aesthetic Design

The HOT 70’s Thermo Orange variant is powered by what Infinix calls Dual-Way Thermo Sensing Skin technology. Using bistable thermochromic materials, the rear panel shifts between deeper and lighter shades of orange depending on ambient temperature.

While colour-changing materials have appeared in niche applications before, their implementation in a mass-market smartphone represents a notable design experiment within the mid-range segment.

More importantly, the technology introduces a new form of user interaction. Unlike conventional smartphone finishes that remain static throughout a product’s lifespan, the HOT 70’s appearance changes dynamically based on environmental conditions, creating a device that feels more responsive and personal.

The company has also introduced a DIY customization capability available on HOT 70 Thermo Orange that allows users to create semi-permanent patterns on the back cover, further extending the personalization experience beyond software.

A New Approach to Smartphone Identity

The colour-changing technology forms part of a broader Dynamic Shine Design strategy that spans six colour variants, including Thermo Orange, Quiet Violet, Green Texture, Night Pulse, Silver Dancer, and Dive Blue.

The Quiet Violet and Green Texture models feature Lumina Flare Dynamic Flame Texture, a surface treatment designed to manipulate light through microstructures embedded within the rear panel. As the device moves, reflected light creates changing visual patterns that give the surface a sense of motion and depth.

From a product design perspective, this reflects a growing trend within consumer electronics: the shift from purely functional hardware toward devices that also serve as personal lifestyle objects.

As smartphones increasingly become extensions of personal identity, manufacturers are investing more heavily in industrial design as a competitive differentiator.

Making AI More Accessible

Beyond design, Infinix is also placing significant emphasis on simplifying AI interactions.

The HOT 70 introduces a dedicated One-Tap AI Button, a physical hardware shortcut designed to eliminate the friction often associated with accessing AI features. Instead of navigating through applications and menus, users can activate intelligent functions through a single press.

A short press activates AI FlashMemo, which captures and interprets on-screen information. Tasks such as converting a flight detail into a calendar event, turning a business card into a saved contact, or extracting actionable information from a screenshot can be completed with minimal user input.

Meanwhile, a long press activates Folax AI, allowing users to access multiple AI models for contextual assistance directly from their screens. The approach reflects a broader industry movement toward embedded AI experiences rather than standalone AI applications.

Complementing these features is AI MindHub, which functions as a centralized repository for captured information, automatically organizing screenshots, notes, videos, and saved content into a searchable knowledge base.

AI Beyond Productivity

Infinix has also integrated AI into imaging, customization, and education-focused use cases.

The device’s AI Live Photo system leverages intelligent frame selection to automatically identify the sharpest image within a motion sequence, helping users capture clearer moments without manual intervention.

Other AI-powered tools include AI Eraser for removing unwanted objects from photos, AI Extender for expanding image compositions beyond their original frame, and AI Custom Wallpapers that generate personalized visual experiences.

For students, the HOT 70 introduces AI Class Timetable, a feature capable of converting photographed schedules into organized calendar entries automatically, a feature currently available in markets including Nigeria.

Durability, Performance, and Power Efficiency

While design and AI dominate the marketing narrative, Infinix has also strengthened the HOT 70’s hardware credentials.

The device features IP65-rated dust and splash resistance and SGS-certified drop protection, reinforcing its durability for everyday use in demanding environments.

Battery performance is anchored by a 6000mAh long-lasting battery, designed to support extended daily usage across productivity, entertainment, and gaming. This is paired with 45W fast charging, enabling rapid power top-ups that significantly reduce downtime. Infinix also introduces an all-scenario bypass charging system, which routes power directly to the device during intensive use such as gaming and streaming, helping reduce heat generation while minimizing long-term battery strain.

Together, these enhancements position the HOT 70 not just as a large-battery device, but as one engineered for efficiency, heat management, and sustained performance stability over time.

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate platform and features a 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and brightness levels reaching 700 nits in High Brightness Mode.

Perhaps more notably, Infinix is promising up to three major operating system upgrades and five years of security updates on supported variants, an increasingly important consideration as consumers keep devices for longer periods.

More Than Another Mid-Range Smartphone

The HOT 70 arrives at a time when smartphone manufacturers face growing pressure to innovate beyond traditional hardware specifications.

For Infinix, the answer appears to be a combination of material experimentation, AI accessibility, and long-term reliability. Whether through colour-changing surfaces, one-tap AI interactions, or enhanced durability, the company is focusing on features that create visible and tangible differences in everyday use.

In a market saturated with devices competing on similar specifications, the HOT 70 demonstrates that differentiation may increasingly come from how a smartphone feels, adapts, and interacts with its user, not just how fast it runs.

And that may be the most important innovation of all.

The Infinix Hot 70 is available at authorised retailers nationwide, priced at ₦189,900 for the 128GB variant and ₦299,900 for the 256GB variant.
