A recent report by Sensor Tower highlights a significant trend in the financial app market: consumers are increasingly interested in apps that incorporate AI features. Between the first quarters of 2024 and 2026, downloads of financial services apps that included the keyword “AI” surged by an incredible 536%.
Sensor Tower is a global digital intelligence company that tracks consumer behaviour and market performance across mobile apps, digital advertising, websites and other digital platforms. The company says its insights are used by more than 2,500 enterprises worldwide.
This data, which focuses on iOS and Google Play in the United States, underscores how artificial intelligence is now becoming a key factor for users when exploring app options, extending beyond just chatbots and specialised AI applications.
In terms of growth among app categories, financial services ranked second, following closely behind health and wellness apps, which saw an impressive increase of 651% during the same time frame. Additionally, categories such as business and productivity software, as well as jobs and education, also saw their downloads more than double.

This shift in consumer behaviour indicates that people are not simply searching for apps to handle their banking, payments, or investing needs. Instead, they are actively seeking out the benefits of artificial intelligence as part of their decision-making process when trying new apps.

The report also reveals that financial companies are adapting to this trend by prioritising AI in their marketing strategies. Financial services have maintained a significant presence in digital advertising that focuses on AI-related themes. Companies like Capital One, TZ Insurance, and ADP are among those promoting their products as enhanced by AI, showcasing its role in providing innovative financial and workplace solutions.
This growing enthusiasm for the technology in financial apps reflects a broader movement towards integrating advanced technology into everyday financial tasks, making it an exciting time for both consumers and industry professionals.

The report also highlights AI-driven transformation in financial advertising
The world of advertising, particularly in the digital realm, is evolving quickly, especially when it comes to artificial intelligence. The report by Sensor Tower highlights that companies worldwide spent an impressive $1.3 billion on digital ads featuring AI-related themes in the first quarter of 2026. This growth is reflected in the surge of apps that now proudly mention AI in their descriptions- over 200,000, in fact.
For financial service businesses, the horizon is expanding far beyond their own websites and apps. Sensor Tower has discovered that financial institutions are now prominently advertising on platforms like ChatGPT. This strategy aims to reach potential customers right when they are researching and comparing financial products. It’s a smart move, as it aligns with how people today are discovering and deciding on financial options.
The trend reflects a significant shift in consumer behaviour when it comes to finding financial products. Sensor Tower’s State of Digital Banking 2026 report indicates that the banking sector remains the largest part of the financial services market. In the year leading up to May 2026, banking apps achieved around 2.3 billion downloads globally, marking a 7% increase from the previous year.

As artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into financial services and how users find these products, it is clear that companies are not just competing on traditional offerings like payments or savings anymore. Instead, the technology is becoming a crucial part of their strategy for attracting new users and standing out in a crowded market. This indicates a fascinating time for the financial industry as they adapt to changing consumer expectations and preferences.
