President Nayib Bukele faces lawsuits for irregularities surrounding Bitcoin acquisition

After an upswing spell in 2020, a country was expected to recognize Bitcoin as a legal currency. However, no one expected El Salvador, a tropical suburb in Central America, to make the headlines as the first country to legalize Bitcoin in 2021.

Nayib Bukele, El Salvador’s President, explained that accepting the cryptocurrency as a legal tender was a move to create a better living environment for its citizens.

Sceptics rose in their numbers, criticizing and condemning Nayib’s decision to invest the country’s resources into Bitcoin and announcing the recognition of Bitcoin as a legal tender. In 2022, the decision suffered greater criticism following a crisis that had struck the market hard.

In response to his critics, Bukele explained in his recent interview on “Tucker Carlson Today” that one of the perks El Salvador seems to be relishing after recognizing Bitcoin as a legal tender is the palpable increase in tourism in the country.

Legalizing Bitcoin improved El Salvador’s Tourism

Bursting with confidence, Bukele stated emphatically that his decision to push El Salvador towards cryptocurrency had improved the country’s tourism by 95%. Shoved between Guatemala and Honduras, El Salvador is a clogged, small country home to incredible waterfalls and natural beauty. Ranked as one of the best places to visit by the dreambigtravelfar blog, El Salvador seems to be riding on Bitcoin’s improvement of its tourism rate. In addition, President Bukele touched on the numerous benefits that Bitcoin has brought to El Salvador’s economy.

According to the President, the country has witnessed a rise in private investments in the last few weeks. Recently, the country has been attracting Bitcoiners due to conferences centred on the legalization of BTC held in the country. Bukele received the solidarity of the Bitcoin community after he decided to legalize BTC.

Though the backlash seemed like a ferocious storm, other countries are beginning to see the reason behind Bukele’s decision; they are starting to understand the redefining potency of Bitcoin and, extensively, cryptocurrency. More countries are beginning to embrace blockchain and cryptocurrency development. In due time, Bukele might become a hero the world never foresaw.

How can the Legalization of Bitcoin improve tourism?

Other countries can take one or two lessons from El Salvador’s recent impressive developments. Considering its vulnerable tendencies, adopting Bitcoin as a legal tender might be tricky.

Beyond the risks attached, Bitcoin could be a redefining point for failing economies. It could go a long way toward helping third-world countries settle their decades-long debts and create a better living environment for their citizens.

Paying attention to aspects of tourism, a good number of countries have failed to attract tourists and investors to their countries. Legalizing Bitcoin raises the eyebrows of the international community.

In turn, first-world countries with powerful advocates for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency develop an interest in such countries, doing their best to figure out why these countries have made such a move and investing largely in them because they have the perfect audience to scale their investments.

In addition to these investments, these enthusiasts will host international programs attended by powerful stakeholders worldwide. Hence, it increases the calibre of persons pulling in and out of the country.

While these people come around to attend these programs, they will stumble on other natural features that make the country habitable and naturally different from where they come from; this is the story of El Salvador.
