For many women, finding a safe and supportive space to discuss personal challenges, pursue self-improvement, and build meaningful relationships can be difficult. While social media provides opportunities for connection, genuine communities built on trust, accountability and service remain rare. One online community changing that narrative is Ladies with Radiance, a women-led initiative using WhatsApp to empower members and improve lives beyond the digital space.
Ladies with Radiance was founded in 2016 by Adenike Iwuchukwu with a simple vision: create a community centred on helping women love themselves, love others and love God, while building a supportive,purpose-driven community.
What began as a Facebook group soon transitioned to WhatsApp in 2017, where members found a more personal and interactive environment to connect.
“While the Facebook group helped us begin that journey, we realised that we needed a more personal and interactive space where members could communicate more freely and build stronger relationships. Moving to WhatsApp in 2017 made that possible. It created room for more regular conversations, faster communication, easier coordination and a stronger sense of community,” stated Adenike.
Today, Ladies with Radiance has approximately 100 active members on WhatsApp, spanning different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora, supported by 11 team leads. The community is supported by smaller WhatsApp groups that have grown organically around members’ specific needs and interests. There is a dedicated group for married women, providing a safe space for conversations about the realities and challenges of marriage.
There is also the Flex Group, where members pool savings towards personal financial goals and hold one another accountable. In addition, the community hosts regular WhatsApp sessions on topics such as financial literacy, etiquette, self-development, goal setting, and faith, creating opportunities for learning, support, and personal growth.

What started as an online community has evolved into a platform for social impact. Through its outreach arm, Love Acts, established in December 2016, Ladies with Radiance has organised numerous initiatives supporting children, families, and underserved communities.
These include its annual Back-to-School Outreach in September, which provides educational materials to pupils, and the Clothe a Child Outreach in December, which distributes clothing and other essentials to children in need during the festive season.
According to the Team Lead, Adenike Iwuchukwu, WhatsApp has been instrumental in mobilising financial support for these initiatives: “When a project is announced in the group chat, details are clearly shared, including the purpose, timelines, and the type of support needed. Members immediately begin contributing and amplifying awareness through their own WhatsApp contacts and platforms, with Status serving as a key channel for wider reach. Communication remains direct, with regular updates shared in the group, allowing donors to track progress in real time from fundraising goals and purchases to the final outreach execution. That transparency and accessibility have built trust over the years and encouraged people to continue supporting our initiatives.”
The impact of these initiatives has been significant. Through the Clothe a Child Outreach alone, the organisation has reached more than 1,800 children and over 1,000 adults since 2016. In 2025, volunteers encountered 49 children on their way to an outreach venue and immediately extended support by distributing party packs, increasing the total number of children that year from 206 to 255.
On outreach days, WhatsApp becomes the operations centre. Tasks are assigned through polls in the group chat, outreach locations are shared, volunteers are briefed, and last-minute changes are managed in real time across multiple locations in the South Western region, including Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun. Members who cannot be physically present contribute financially or amplify awareness from wherever they are through their WhatsApp Status, then follow the impact as photos and updates are shared in the group throughout the day.

Recognising that education remains one of the biggest challenges for many vulnerable families, the community launched the Edu Pal Project in 2025, an educational sponsorship initiative created to support children whose parents struggle to afford school fees. Since its inception, more than 50 pupils have benefited from the programme. Currently, 36 children are receiving educational support, including 12 pupils on long-term sponsorship plans that will continue until they complete their secondary school education.
For Ladies with Radiance, the true measure of success goes beyond numbers. Impact is measured through stories of transformation—children returning to school with renewed confidence, families finding relief during difficult seasons, women growing through community support and members discovering purpose through service.
By leveraging WhatsApp to connect people around a shared purpose, they demonstrate how online communities can become powerful vehicles for social impact, proving that technology is most meaningful when it brings people together to make a difference in the lives of others.
