The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that the results of the just-concluded WASSCE for school candidates 2025 will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025. This comes weeks after the examination concluded nationwide.

According to a press release signed by the WAEC Nigeria Public Affairs Head, Moyosola Adesina, via its X handle on Sunday, marking of scripts has concluded, and candidates are urged to await the official release of their results.

The marking of scripts of the said examination has just been concluded, and results will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025,” the board noted.

In addition, WAEC also disregarded circulating reports that the recently concluded examination had been cancelled. According to the board, a false statement circulated on social media platforms on Saturday, July 19, that both the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had cancelled the examination due to widespread examination malpractice, leakage of question papers, and unauthorised digital dissemination of exam materials.

The WAEC Management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious Press Statement being circulated did not emanate from the Council. The said examination has not been cancelled,” the board said.

While the source of the alleged misinformation wasn’t confirmed, WAEC noted that the false claim is being orchestrated by individuals who are bent on confusing and tarnishing the image of the board. In addition, it said that the goal of these mischiefs is to cause confusion and panic among candidates who sat the examination.

The Council would like to use this opportunity to inform the general public and all stakeholders that all information from the Council are disseminated via our official and verified social media handles, as well as accredited media platforms across the country,” it added.

Recall that the 2025 WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination), which was held between Thursday, April 24, and Friday, June 20, 2025, recorded a total of 1,973,253 candidates registered from 23,554 schools. This includes 979,228 males and 994,025 females.

In an escalating situation, outrage swept across Nigeria on May 28, 2025, as students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) English Language Paper 2 faced unprecedented delays, forcing many to complete their exams late into the night under dire conditions.

FG disregard false claims on WAEC and NECO

In light of WAEC’s public disclaimer, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, also rejected reports circulating online that WAEC 2025 has been cancelled due to widespread examination malpractice.

The ministry stressed that the 2025 WAEC Examinations had been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities. In addition, it also noted that the ongoing NECO Examinations are progressing smoothly, and no cases of examination malpractice have been reported as of the press release.

The Federal Ministry of Education has not received any official communication or report from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body regarding widespread malpractice of the examinations,” it added.

Also, the Ministry urged candidates, parents, schools and the general public to disregard any unauthorised press release currently in circulation, tagging them as entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic and confusion.
