Piggyvest makes CNBC's World Top Fintech Companies 2026 list for third year running

Piggyvest has been named on CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026 list for the third consecutive year, becoming the only African company recognised in the Wealth Technology category alongside global names like Robinhood, Wealthsimple, and Tiger Brokers.

The list, compiled by CNBC in partnership with market research firm Statista, evaluates fintech companies across eight market segments using a scoring model that measures both industry-wide and segment-specific performance indicators. Being placed in the Wealth Technology category puts Piggyvest in the company of platforms that offer digital trading, investment management, and portfolio tools, a segment dominated by firms from the United States, Canada, and Asia.

The recognition carries particular weight because it is the third time in a row Piggyvest has made the list, suggesting this is not a one-off moment but a sustained assessment of the platform’s performance and relevance on a global scale.

“Being recognised for the third consecutive year means a great deal to us because it is built on the trust millions of people have placed in Piggyvest over the last decade,” Odun Eweniyi, Co-founder and COO, said.

Since launching in 2016, Piggyvest has grown from a simple automated savings tool into one of Africa’s most widely used personal finance platforms. More than six million users have used it to save and invest trillions of naira, with products designed to make wealth-building accessible to everyday Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora.

What this recognition means for Piggyvest and African fintech on the global stage

The CNBC list is not a participation trophy. It is a data-driven benchmark, and being the only African company in an entire category is a meaningful signal about what Piggyvest has built relative to the rest of the world.

Robinhood democratized stock trading for millions of Americans. Wealthsimple did the same for Canadians. Tiger Brokers built a platform for global investors. Piggyvest sits alongside these names not by solving the same problems in the same markets, but by solving various problems for a market that most global wealth tech companies have never prioritised or fully understood.

The comparison matters because it challenges a persistent assumption in global finance that products built for African users are somehow inherently less sophisticated or less competitive than their Western counterparts. Piggyvest’s inclusion on this list for three straight years pushes back against that framing directly.

“Sitting alongside some of the world’s leading wealth technology companies reinforces something we have always believed: products built for African users can meet the highest global standards and can compete with the very best in the world,” CEO and Co-founder Somto Ifezue said. “We hope it inspires even greater ambition across the continent’s technology ecosystem.”

The recognition comes just months after Piggyvest marked a decade in operation, ten years of building financial habits for millions of Nigerians who had limited alternatives before the platform existed.

Chief Marketing Officer and Co-founder Joshua Chibueze said the company’s focus going forward remains on expanding its wealth-building product suite.

We will continue listening closely to our users and building products that make saving, investing, and managing wealth even simpler for millions,” he said.
