TS Academy Spots Growing Demand for Tech Skills Among Creators

More digital creators are beginning to look beyond content creation and towards building within the tech ecosystem, a shift that is becoming increasingly visible across creator communities in Nigeria

This shift was evident during TS Academy’s recent engagement at Moment by Mainstack in Lagos, where the academy interacted with creators exploring how to move from building audiences to developing technical and digital skills.

At the event, TS Academy hosted a dedicated booth that became a point of conversation for creators trying to understand what comes next beyond content. Rather than focusing on growth metrics or platform performance, many attendees approached the team with a different set of questions: how to build beyond their audience, what skills are required to participate more deeply in the digital economy, and how to create more sustainable career paths.

According to Toheeb Abdulrahman, Head of Strategy at TS Academy, the shift is less about reinvention and more about expansion.

“Creators already operate at the center of the internet. They understand distribution, audience behaviour, and how digital systems respond to content. What is often missing is the technical layer behind those systems. Once that gap is closed, they can move from participating in platforms to building within them.”

From multiple conversations at the booth, TS Academy observed a clear pattern: creators are becoming more aware of the limitations of relying solely on platforms and are actively looking for ways to gain more control over their work and income.

While platforms enable growth, they do not always guarantee stability. Algorithm changes, shifting priorities, and inconsistent monetisation mean that visibility does not always translate into predictable outcomes. This reality is pushing more creators to explore technical and digital skills that offer greater ownership and long-term value.

For some, this means understanding how digital products are built and managed. For others, it is about learning how platforms function beyond the user level.

One creator who engaged with TS Academy described the interaction as a turning point.

“I came in thinking about how to improve my content, but the conversation made me realise I’ve been operating on just one layer. There’s a whole side of the digital space I haven’t explored, and  that’s where I see the real opportunity.”

Sharing further insight on the overall experience at the event, Damilola Opaniyan, Head of Brand & Communication at TS Academy, highlighted the strong response from participants and what it signifies for the academy’s impact.

“The highlight of the event for us was seeing so many current TS Academy students come up to us in person to discuss the progress of their programme. It was such a heartwarming experience and a clear signal that we’re doing something right at TS Academy. It also strengthened our resolve to continue sustaining and improving the quality of our learners’ experience. This would ensure that they continue to stay relevant as tech-empowered creators.”

For TS Academy, this shift reflects a broader change in how creators are beginning to see their role within the digital economy, not just as participants, but as potential builders. This evolving mindset is shaping demand for more structured, practical learning pathways that go beyond surface-level knowledge and focus on real, applicable skills.

Through its programmes, TS Academy is positioning itself within this transition, helping creators translate their existing experience into more sustainable and scalable opportunities within the tech ecosystem. The academy has also offered scholarships to thousands of students across Africa, expanding access to digital and technical training.
