LagRide parent company donates 10 vehicles worth ₦300m to enhance security in Lagos

LagRide parent company, CIG Motors, has donated 10 operational vehicles to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. This was disclosed in a statement seen by Technext. Chairman and CEO of CIG Motors Group, Chief Diana Chen, led the donation of the vehicles reportedly worth over ₦300 million.

The company said the donation is aimed at strengthening security operations, mobility and emergency response across Lagos State.

“Security is the first infrastructure of prosperity. When Lagos is secure, businesses grow, investments thrive and communities prosper,” Chief Diana Chen said.

Receiving the vehicles, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary and CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, commended Chief Diana Chen and CIG Motors for being a consistent and dependable private-sector partner to the Lagos State Government.

Enhancing security in Lagos

Lagos is the largest city and commercial nerve centre of the country. Rapid urbanisation spurred by a daily influx of people seeking a better life naturally leads to a rise in crime rates. However, unlike some parts of the country where banditry and kidnapping are rife, Lagos finds itself grappling with crimes tied to its own growing fortunes as a megacity.

These crimes include armed robbery, fraud, cultism and gang clashes, street extortion by touts, vehicle-based robberies called one-chance and several others. Tackling these crimes as they happen requires a security system with operatives who are nimble and make it to crime scenes in good time. To this end, mobility is essential.

The Lagos Security Trust Fund and the Lagos State Government have constantly ensured the provision of vehicles to drive security operations. Since its establishment by law in 2007, public and private organisations have constantly donated to the fund, with the bulk of donations coming from the Lagos State Government.

With this donation, CIG Motors joins a list of organisations that have donated and continue to donate to the fund.
