After Over 20,900 Nominations, MTN Foundation Moves WCWDT Phase 6 to Selection Stage

MTN Foundation has reported that it received 20,983 nominations nationwide during the sixth phase of its What Can We Do Together (WCWDT) initiative. The nomination exercise followed the launch of the 2026 call for nominations in May.

The initiative targeted public primary healthcare centres and secondary schools, inviting Nigerians to nominate deserving health and educational facilities in their communities for possible upgrades. The deadline was subsequently extended to June 22, giving more communities the opportunity to participate in the initiative.

With nominations and physical verification now closed, 149 nominated facilities across Nigeria have been assessed. The facilities comprised 113 public primary healthcare centres and 36 schools under the Science Laboratory Upgrade intervention.

The verification exercise involved on-site assessments to confirm government ownership, accessibility, existing infrastructure and overall condition, as well as each facility’s suitability for revitalisation or upgrade. Following the completion of this phase, the programme will now move into the selection stage, during which approved facilities will be identified for intervention.

The community-driven model is central to the initiative, giving Nigerians an opportunity to drive development within their own communities. The Foundation is focused on improving access to quality healthcare and creating better environments for practical science learning through the upgrade of public primary healthcare centres and science laboratories.

Executive Director of the MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, said the programme is aimed at “supporting the development of stronger communities by improving access to essential healthcare services and giving the next generation of scientists, engineers, and doctors access to facilities where they can learn through practice and imagination.”

Under Phase 6, MTN Foundation plans to revitalise 40 Public Primary Healthcare Centres and renovate and equip 15 public secondary school science laboratories nationwide. Nigerians who submitted nominations are encouraged to stay connected to MTN Nigeria’s official channels as the process progresses and the final recipient communities are announced.
