Electric mobility company Spiro has announced the appointment of Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer (CDO). Huy, a former programme engineering manager at General Motors, joins the EV maker with nearly three decades of global automotive and electric vehicle experience spanning vehicle engineering, product development, manufacturing, supply chain and operational scale-up.
Over the course of his career at General Motors, VinFast and Hero MotoCorp, he has worked across North America, China, India, Southeast Asia and Europe. He has led large engineering organisations, developed vehicle platforms across internal combustion, hybrid and electric technologies, and delivered complex, high-volume vehicle programmes from concept to market.
As Chief Development Officer, Huy will lead the company’s end-to-end product development and operationalisation, supporting it as it continues to strengthen its products, engineering capabilities, manufacturing footprint and supply chain across Africa. In this role, he reports directly to the CEO of Spiro Group, Anant Badjatya.

Speaking about his appointment, Huy Chieu expressed excitement at the prospect of turning the company’s current scale into deeper engineering capabilities and stronger products.
“Spiro has built a unique electric mobility platform with the ambition and scale to transform transportation across Africa. I am excited to join the team at this pivotal stage and help turn that scale into stronger products, deeper engineering capabilities and world-class manufacturing. The opportunity now is to build mobility solutions in Africa that can compete globally,” he said.

Spiro is continuing to scale its operations and deepen the localisation of its value chain as it builds an increasingly integrated electric mobility ecosystem across the continent.

Speaking about the new addition at this time, Group CEO of Spiro, Anant Badjatya, said it was essential as Huy brings a blend of technical depth, leadership experience and operational excellence.
“Huy joins us at a pivotal stage in Spiro’s growth journey. He brings a unique combination of technical depth, operational excellence and leadership experience, together with a strong track record of bringing complex vehicle programmes from concept to market.
