Zoho Books launches Nigeria edition to help businesses handle VAT and e-invoicing compliance

Zoho Corporation has launched a Nigeria edition of Zoho Books, its cloud-based accounting software, designed to help local businesses manage VAT and e-invoicing requirements alongside AI-powered financial tools.

The Nigeria edition also extends to other products in Zoho’s finance and operations suite, giving businesses a broader set of country-specific tools rather than a standalone accounting product.

The software automatically applies VAT rates based on item type and customer classification, handles reverse charge on sales and purchase transactions, and manages withholding tax for both resident and non-resident transactions.

It can generate VAT schedules in the format required by the TaxProMax portal, and businesses can submit e-invoices directly to the Nigeria Revenue Service portal or through an approved e-invoicing service provider via NRS’s Merchant Buyer Solution.

“Nigeria has one of the most dynamic business landscapes, and its successful businesses know that there is a competitive advantage that comes from being compliant and having end-to-end visibility into their finances,” said Prashant Ganti, VP of Global Product Strategy and Alliances for Zoho’s Finance and Operations Business Unit.

“Businesses will now have AI-native finance applications purpose-built for the Nigerian regulatory environment that streamline their financial operations, scaling with them as their business grows while offering real-time insights every step of the way,” he said.

Beyond compliance, Zoho Books includes invoicing, online payment collection, core accounting, bank reconciliation, stock tracking, project management, budgeting, and workflow automation.

Its AI features include Ask Zia for retrieving data and business overviews, a CoCreate Agent that lets users create sales transactions from simple prompts, trend forecasting and anomaly detection in reports, and a Zia Invoice Agent for invoicing insights.

According to a Zoho-conducted survey of more than 100 Nigerian small and medium businesses, only 24% currently use AI tools for financial management, and 65% of non-adopters cited a lack of awareness, rather than reluctance, as the main reason.

Of the businesses that have adopted AI tools, 30% reported saving between one and three hours a week. Zoho frames its own product as a response to that gap, embedding AI capabilities natively rather than requiring businesses to seek out separate tools.

The Nigeria edition also extends to other applications in Zoho’s suite, including Zoho Billing, Zoho Invoice, Zoho Commerce, Zoho Inventory, Zoho Spend, Zoho Expense, Zoho Procurement, and Zoho Practice, all built on the same underlying platform to allow data to move between applications without manual re-entry.

Zoho says this launch brings its total number of country-specific finance and operations editions to 16, alongside markets including Kenya, South Africa, the UAE, India, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
