Tech Trivia with Elizabeth Ogunseye, Co-founder at Subify Technologies

Ifeoluwa Popoola
This is Technext’s weekly Women-in-tech trivia, a close-up series that spotlights the lives and personalities of female tech enthusiasts, professionals, and founders. A new edition drops every Monday.

Fintech is often thought of as a space for payment infrastructure and lending platforms. But for Elizabeth Anuoluwapo Ogunseye, the problem worth solving is simpler: what happens when a group of people wants to split a subscription or share a bill without the awkwardness of chasing each other for money or the fear of being scammed? That question is what Subify is built around.

Elizabeth is Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Subify Technologies, a peer-to-peer subscription-sharing and bill-splitting fintech operating across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Cameroon. Since its launch, the platform has grown to over 2,000 users and $11,000 in revenue.

But Subify is only one part of what Elizabeth is building. She is also Co-founder of The Fintech Africa, where she led Launchpad Africa Cohort 2, a programme that worked with 12 founding teams and over 25 mentors, took eight teams to a final demo day, and sent three home with $1,000 each.

Outside of that, she is the first female President of the Association of Digital Marketing Professionals (ADMARP), which represents more than 2,000 marketing professionals, and Marketing Lead for Tech Revolution Africa 3.0.

1. Summarise your mornings in one sentence

Gym from 6 to 7:30 a.m. (my routine since 2019), then meetings from 8:30, then emails to every stakeholder who needs a reply before the real work starts.

2. Describe your gadget setup

Elizabeth Ogunseye’s gadget setup

My setup is simple and built for working from home. I work at a table with my laptop as my main device, a ring light so I always look good on camera during meetings, and a notepad and pen beside me for taking notes and jotting down ideas while I work.

3. What tech tools/ applications do you use the most for work?

Teams and Slack.

4. What do you do when you need inspiration?

Most of the time, when I need inspiration, I listen to music or watch YouTube videos; sometimes I even dance. It helps a lot. And if I still feel blocked, I totally leave the task and make sure I inform whoever the deliverables are for about when they will be delivered.

5. What mobile application can you not do without daily?

Whatsapp.

6. What tech solution do you wish someone had created?

A simple, trusted way for Africans to pool money and share costs for everyday digital needs, without awkward chasing or fear of being scammed. That’s the gap I’m working on with Subify.

7. If you have unlimited time and money, what problem would you solve?

I’d build structured, funded support for early-stage African founders, covering mentorship, capital, and distribution, so more of them ship products and compete globally. It’s what we started with Launchpad Africa.

8. Which woman in tech inspires you the most?

I inspire myself. Then I’d say the COO of Midddleman- I just love how she hustles when it comes to winning pitches. It’s inspiring.

Omolara Sanni, COO of Midddleman

9. Which profound statement inspires you the most?

Don’t aim to do it fast; do it well. This is a profound statement because most times, people are always rushing. And because of that, they don’t get it right.

10. Whose women in tech trivia would you love to read?

Omolara Sanni (I mentioned up there that she inspires me, so yes, I’d love to read her tech trivia, if she does not have one already).
